Hi KA's--
I just wanted to give y'all the heads up and let you know that there is what seems to be a very important piece of KA memorabilia on ebay right now. Here is the link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=2134163873
Here is the item description:
15/16" heavy gold (unhallmarked, but definitely gold) and enamel Kappa Alpha pin is a special engraved presentation piece to
Richard E. Byrd, one of America's most famous aviators and explorers and a Medal of Honor recipient. The reverse is nicely hand engraved on seven lines: "Presented to Commander Richard Evelyn Byrd Beta '06, Lambda '07-'08 by the Richmond Alumni Chapter Kappa Alpha September 15-1926." This was no doubt in recognition of Byrd's 1926 polar explorations and successful flight to the North Pole. I believe that Beta chapter was VMI and Lambda was the University of Virginia. This is one of a number of fraternity pins and badges that I obtained from the Admiral Richard E. Byrd estate auction held in Boston in November of 1988 (I also have many other Byrd items that I will be offering in the next month). This came from Byrd's own jewelry box, along with assorted wings, lapel pins, naval insignia, foreign coins, rings, fraternity pins, etc. Excellent condition. This is a significant presentation fraternal item that would be the highlight of any fraternity badge collection.
If the Kappa Alpha national has a museum, this should be in it!
Seems like this
should be in your HQ museum! I hope a KA wins the auction and keeps it in the KA family!!!
