They might have cut you too quickly, before they got to know you. Or I think I saw another post where you said your GPA was on the low side? There is a LOT more emphasis on grades during rush than there used to be.
In addition, there are what's called "release figures." Without getting too mathematical about it, this says that sororities may only invite a certain amount of girls back. Like if they only have 10 spots to fill, they can't invite back 80 girls just to "be sure." And obviously when they do this, they don't know which girls are going to come back to THEM.
Just keep an open mind if a house should offer you a bid - it might be exactly where you're supposed to be.

That's totally okay! I personally know two girls who COB'd (got a bid after rush was over) and they both became president of their respective sororities!!!!!!!! Sometimes fate leads you to the right place, so I say go for it if you have the opportunity

I agree! If you're still interested in being in a sorority then by all means take an open bid. Two of my best friends COB'd into my sorority after formal rush, and they've never regretted taking their bids. Good luck! I hope everything works out for the best.

I agree with erniegurl and dzsaigirl! The best president our chapter ever had came to us by snap bidding right after rush because she'd been cross-cut by 2 other groups. Too bad for those 2 groups--their loss, our gain!

I guess my question is that i know there will be spots open because this year at my college there was not that many girls rushing. And from what my rhi told me that they could contact me within a couple of weeks or even when i am moving into the dorms. but the only reason why i got cut was because of my gpa and that would not change. i understand that they can only take so many girls. but i felt embarassed(spelledwrong sorry) because they didn't want me for the last 2 days. but yet they are going to come up to me and be nice and how i am supposed to act happy but yet i am mad. i guess i need to sit down and talk to someone who has gone through this.

I remember hearing that the National President of Alpha Phi was COB'ed. I don't know if it is the current one or not, but keep that in mind. Some of my best friends in my house did not go through formal recruitment. It can't hurt to try!

I personally dropped out of formal rush, and went into open bidding on purpose. I felt uncomfortable and rushed (forgive the pun). I wanted to take more time to get to know the houses.

Hi smile_forever,
Glad to see that you checked out Greek Chat! I know that I already gave you some advice on ChickClick, but I just wanted to tell you to keep your head up. I know a lot of girls who didn't have the perfect GPA when they first rushed who ended up making great sorority sisters.
Don't let the fact that you were cut for grades dishearten you too much. Definitely try open bidding when it begins! And be sure to let us here at GreekChat know what happens!
Good luck!

I have already posted on this one, but I have more to say.
1) Do not feel hurt that sororities released you because of grades. Usually, they have no choice even if you are a really sweet girl
2) The fact that your grades aren't high enough doesn't mean that the sororities CAN'T give you a bid IF they get special permission from their national. Of course this all depends on lots of things including the rules of your school, whether or not the sororities' nationals are flexible, if they could get other people with better GPA's and lastly, how far away your GPA was from being acceptable (a 1.5 when you need a 2.5 would be bad news, but a 2.4 might be negotiable depending on their situation).
3) Maybe they LOVE you and they can't wait until you get your grades up so that they can have a chance for you to pledge later!
I hope this helps

A lot of times the national will say "you must release everyone with under a (example) 2.75." Then later in the week, the rush chair calls national and says "umm, we have 3 girls coming to pref and quota is 10. But there are some great girls who almost made grades." And then the girls who were released come back.
It is NOTHING to take personally if grades were the reason, it just shows how much more seriously sororities are taking scholarship these days. (Which is a good thing.)
