Erniegurl--Pooh family? Huh?
Erniegurl, you mentioned in another thread tht you were in the Pooh family in your sorority. I know that bigs and littles get really complicated and fun up North but I don't understand. (Mostly in the South, we have bigs and littles and maybe grandbigs and that's it!)
What's a Pooh family? And can you explain the system y'all have?

I didn't see the specific post you're talking about but maybe she was talking about what her family name is. I know that in my chapter my family has a name. We started off having crayons be our symbol because the sister that started our family was an education major. Now we call ourselves "The Den" because our school mascot is the tiger. Could that possibly be what Erniegurl is talking about?

Yeah that's pretty much what I was referring to.
I didn't realize that Family Names weren't taken so seriously down south! Basically every family in the house has a symbol. We're the Pooh Bear family because we all love the Disney character. My Big gave me a ton of baby gifts AND pooh gifts. I know other girls in my house are the Crowns, Tiaras, Wands, Teddy Bears, etc etc. I know my friend in DG is in the Heart Family, and my friend in AX is also in the Pooh Family. It's just something cute we do to keep family unity.

My roommate from a couple of years ago had nicknames for their pledge classes. It would be names like "waterfall" and fluffy stuff like that.

My pledge family is the Powerpuff Girls. It's the same idea, I got my kids mugs and calendars with the powerpuff girls on them.

Here in Miami we have similar family names but we call them Lineages
DarkSide, Flipmode, La Familia, and Mafia
instead of symbols we have certain family colors that are displayed on the shirts we give our lil sisters. the color of your shirt tells what lineage you are in.
Most big sisters will give thier lil ones their lineage shirt and a pink one

Since squirrels are the mascot of Alpha Gam...my family always gave our sister-daughters a Rocky the Squirrel from Rocky & Bullwinkle. So cute! Hard to find sometimes though. The one cool think I got from my "grandma" was her real life sister was an Alpha Gam from another chapter in the 80s and she gave me her first pair of letters.

We also have family letters for the families in my chapter... my family's letters are a black sweatshirt, black letters with a tie-dye background. Another family is the Pooh theme, except they have a giant Pooh blanket that they have new letters made out of, it's been passed down for years. It's getting SMALL.... Another family has camoflauge letters on a black t-shirt, and another has shamrocks. It's kinda fun...

We do family letters too! It always gives me great pride when someone says "cool letters' and I say "thanks, they're my family letters!!' they're a blue/green plaid on a white tee with blue rings around the neck and sleeves. I can't wait to buy a set for my new little(s)!!!!
