Red face Has anyone ever experienced this?

I've been having pretty weird experiences w/ caffiene lately. Well lately whenever I have caffiene I have cying spells and severe irritability. And worse, I'm in a daze, I find it hard to understand simple things, and even form sentences. Within the last few days I've stopped the intake and I am back to normal. It must have been it.

Caffeine is a very potent stimulant and you may be more sensitive to it than the average person. Also, this sensitivity can come and go....you might want to ask your doctor or at your campus health clinic.

You could be hypersensitive. Caffeine is a drug, after all. It's one of those common ones that people are addicted to and don't even notice or care. I eliminated it from my diet when I was in high school and had stunning results. Now the only time I use it is when I'm distance driving because I tend to get really bad road fatigue. Three sips of Dr. Pepper and I'm ready to go. Any more than that and I start shaking.

Are you eating properly and getting enough vitamins? Perhaps this reaction to caffeene is because of an empty stomach, stress, or something else.

Talking

I cut caffeine out of my life during this summer. Caffeine is a very addictive drug, and its effects are pretty bad--ranging from breast lumps to high blood pressure. After not drinking it, I can tell that it's out of my system--I have a normal sleep schedule now, and I don't get nervous so much anymore. I do have a Coke once in a while--like, when I'm ordering pizza with Mr. Munchkin03, and water and fruit juice or milk really won't do. But that's like, once every other month.

I let KappaKittyCat drink half a can of Dr. Pepper once. The results were alarming. It's a wonder she managed to stay on the road on her way home.

I also tend to react to caffeine more strongly than others do, but the effect has dampened in the last few years. One of my fraternity brothers, who was my roommate for nearly two years after college, is more than a little caffeine-dependent. I began to accompany him on some of his journeys out for caffeinated sustenance -- I would get something less potent than his choices, but still caffeinated.

Then, I went to law school. Oh, my. For most of my first year there, I was living on fewer than six hours of sleep a night -- while living with someone who during the winter had a six-coffee-a-day-or-more habit. I still wasn't much of a coffee drinker, but I was consuming something on the order of 100 to 120 ounces of Coke and Dr. Pepper a day. Driving long distances, as I did from time to time in the spring, meant that I stopped almost every hour -- caffeine makes the kidneys a little hyperactive as well as the brain -- and then buy more caffeine.

All of this caffeine intake kept me awake, yes, but it made me very jittery and it made it harder for me to deal with the rest of the world. I detoxed myself after the academic year ended in May. It felt very strange and rather uncomfortable at first, but after about two weeks I felt very at ease. It didn't hurt that I was finally getting enough sleep, but the caffeine-triggered jitteriness also wasn't getting in the way of my ability to relax and process the world around me.

I still drink caffeine, but I will never drink that much again.

Oh-- and the daze and the difficulty putting sentences together -- I had that too. Or at least it felt like it. There's nothing like spending most of the first year at law school feeling like you can't put a sentence together. Ugh.

This is going to sound really bad, but I'm totally addicted/dependent on caffeiene.

I drink about 7 Diet Cokes a day.

I don't think people even KNOW my real personality... it's all the caffeiene talking.

XOXO,
Annie, who needs to join some kind of 12-step program.

I know that personally, caffeine hits me hard when I'm sleep-deprived. If I'm getting enough sleep, I can handle a couple Mountain Dews with no side effects -- but if I've just pulled an all-nighter, anything beyond a couple sips would practically have me convulsing.

Of course, some people are just more sensitive to it than others.

I have no problems drinking soda or tea, but coffee makes me wacky. Sometimes just for fun I'll get a large coffee from Dunkin' Donuts. I get just like I do when I'm drunk, but it's less expensive and there are no hangovers. I can't drink coffee on an empty stomach, though, because I get shaky and nauseous.

Quit drinking pop all together! It rots your body!

Pop and caffeine bad, water good!
