Well, we have rush the week before school and the day before the first day of classes we have bid day.
Our Panhellenic sends out rush booklets to all incoming freshman and it has all the info in there. It is actually easier so you don't have to worry about things... I love the fact that we have time to do all the work without the stress of classes!! All the upperclassmen know when it is if they want to rush..
The week before school our University also has a thing for all incoming students that is kind of a introduction to the campus for five days... they get to move in early and go to programs, exchanges, get their books, meet teachers and walk around campus to get familiar.. it is really cool program.. they miss some stuff to rush but you have to be in the program to got hrough rush unless you are a sophomore or older.. then you just get to move in early. I love it that way! I cant imagine having rush during school!

We start rush a couple days before classes, so we actually finish once classes have started. During the summer, we have about 5 freshmen orientations. At the orientations, the incoming freshies have the chance to go to the greek life meeting and pick up a rush application. I hate this process. A lot of times, the meeting is scheduled during some important placement test, or the meeting is not well advertised so people don't know about it, or people think they don't want to rush, so they don't go to the meeting, then 2 weeks after orientation change their mind, but then it's too late. This process is starting to affect the numbers during rush, yet our greek life chair refuses to listen to repeated suggestions of mailing the rush book out to all incoming freshies. This is how all the other large schools in the state do it. I also think that when people are wary about rushing, getting the rush book in the mail and reading over it may change their mind. I am still working hard to get our current process changed.

Our rush is during school like yours. I think it will be extremely hectic, because many of the unofficial Greek events (before actual rush starts) start the second day of classes. For example, we have a pizza party with our Rho Chi, a picnic, "Greek Fest", mud volleyball, and "Go Greek Night" all in the first week of classes.
During all this is when the fraternities have rush, and a week later is the sorority rush. I'm really going to have to study my a$$ off so all the activities won't get me off to a bad start academically.
