Rushing at the age of 20
i am thinking strongly about rushing this fall, and I was wondering how good or bad are my chances of me rushing at such an older age. I already worry about rushing with such younger girls anyway, but that really isn't going to bother me much. But i had heard that it may be harder for me to rush. I have alot of great things under my belt that i can contribute to the sororities, but is my age going to be a big factor? please help!

I think sometimes it depends on your school. At my college, age doesn't matter. I pledged as a freshman, but one of my pledge sisters was a 20-year-old junior. But at another school, my friend from HS rushed as a sophomore (age 19) and had a really hard time, and ended up dropping out of rush. I say go for it, and act like yourself, whether you're 18, 20, or 100 years old! If you are really excited, a truly good chapter will recognize that and see what you have to offer. Best of luck!

Dianne is right. It does depend on your school.
However, I was 20 when I pledged and my age didn't matter. In fact, one of my pledge sisters was 23 and married when we were initiated.

I bet that there will be many people this Fall who are wondering the same thing you are!

I think that more importantly, are you a 20 year old freshman or a 20 year old junior? When I was new member educator, I had a woman in the new member class who was 20, but she was only a sophomore, and she was fine. If you want to be greek, go for it!

I rushed at the end of my sophomore year, and really clicked with the "older" girls in my house. However, keep in mind that those girls have already been in the house for three years and have an established "group" that is pretty difficult to break into. It was fine, but took some work. I didn't relate as much to the freshman I was pledging with.. just keep it in mind. If you are older, you may have some different interests. Just a thought.

Hey!
IT's a GREAT idea to rush when you are older. I was 20 almost 21 when i rush. It does depend on your school. The school i'm at love upper classmen rushing because they know who they are. NOrmally they can add more to the sorority and the greek community faster. GOOD LUCK WITH RUSH!!
