Good Deeds: Omega Psi Phi assists NCCU grad student
August 5, 2002
The Herald-Sun
This kind note comes from Glenn Thomas who wants to thank the Omega Psi Phi chapter at N.C. Central for its generosity.
"As a first-year graduate student at NCCU in 2001, I was awarded the opportunity to study abroad in Geneva, Switzerland. But with so many costs and little money at hand, it seemed this opportunity would turn into a lost dream.
So, with my trip deposit deadline less than one week away I turned to my last hope, the men of the Beta Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. The Omega men are known throughout the Durham community for being involved with community service projects and uplifting all communities that need help. "Yet, I was more than nervous to ask these gentlemen to give me money out of their pockets to assist me with my educational venture. Nevertheless, I stood before them and explained my opportunity and how much it would cost and no sooner than when I sat down they started to pass a hat around on my behalf. This kind act had a domino effect and soon I would start receiving monetary donations via mail from other members of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. These men had spread the word to their brothers to help me, a guy who they did not even know.
"Needless to say, I was able to pay my deposit and attend my program. This was truly an act of kindness and generosity; kind hearts are not lost when it comes to the men of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. Thank you."
