Help!
Hi! I am in a medium sized chapter and we dont really have trouble keeping members, its getting the women interested... since we are not 'the name' sorority (the ones everyone knows by name on campus) and not the huge partiers (we DO have fun though! Just not at alot the BIG name parties) We're known as the nice girls most of the time (how that is affecting us, I dont know!) We're not a huge chapter on campus... and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to get people to give us a good look!
Also... does anyone have any ideas to get new members really pumped about learning some good ol' sorority history? I know I was, but then again, thats me... I get accused of being a Phi Sig Cheerleader... lol...

hey
what my chapter of phi sigma is doing is getting to know the girl individually. make friends with them, and slowly bring them into phi sigma. my chapter is really small too, but it's awesome, everyone loves us. it's nice because when you meet new girls you will need up with a friend and maybe a sister! it's summer time and we have 6 girls that want to go phi sigma! it's not that we are rushing them, by no means are we, but they are realizing that is we are friends with these girls and hang out all the time, maybe being a phi sigma would be fun. YOu are selling yourself to these girls. meet as many new people as you can, even the guys( they can help you rush)my guy friends tell everyone about phi sigma and how great we are!! i hope this helps!

Im glad that other people get accused of being a "cheerleader"!!! I met another Phi Sig at Slippery Rock who was like me!!
Blinks- Thanks for your idea... we all try to make friends with people first... during recruitment we usually have a thing where our MRC says "Who came down because of a flier?" and like one person raises her hand... and then "Who came down becuase someone brought her down?" and we all raise our hands! I was recruited when I was a junior in HS!! (and didnt even know it!) We always bring in alot of band people since alot of us are in band... its easy to talk it up!!!
Since were smallish this year... were gonna need more help... any more ideas about getting the name out?

Our VP Alumni is the same way.. we astound some members with the random, yet interesting, facts we know!

Here's some ideas: - Campus Resources: most campus' will have some sort of Student Activities fair towards the beginning of each year. Make sure you are there, well-represented & eager to talk about your chapter & greek life in general. (If your school doesn't have this, suggest it!)
- Signs, flyers, etc. While it's not the most effective way, people seeing your name everywhere on campus can have a positive impact. Announce anything and everything that non-members and even non-greeks can come to (whether its parties, philanthropies, etc.)
- Support other greeks & their events. If you're out supporting your brothers and sisters in greekdom, they're more likely to put in a good word for you (particularly the opposite-gendered chapters).
- Be visible. Designate one day each week as badge day, letter day, etc. and have every member wear their badge, something with letters, etc. It's a good idea to let them know that when people ask, they should talk about sisterhood, philantrhopies, etc.
Hope some of those ideas helped!

Oh, Angel... I thought of something else. One of the sororities on my campus had T-Shirts made w/ their letters on the front and "Ask Me About the Party Tonight" in huge bold letters on the back.
They would all wear them on days they were having open parties.
You could do something similar, maybe with just "Ask Me About Phi Sigma Sigma" or something else intriguing on the back. It's a good way to strike up conversations & introduce your chapter to people.

Hey Angel
One thing that we did in my chapter to learn history was to make up games... like we had Phi Beta Jeapordy. In fact, last year we had our national convention in our city, and when alumni came to visit the chapter, we played it with them!
They also started doing Phi Beta Trivia at Convention to liven up business meetings. They gave out cute little prizes that would have some relevance to the Fraternity.
Then again, I'm like you... I can't get enough Phi Beta history!
