Where is OSU?
Is it in Columbus? How about Stillwater? Somewhere in Oregon?
While a set of letters may be perfectly clear to you, different initials mean different things to folks in other parts of the country.
I graduated from O.U. My son goes to O.U. My daughter graduated from O.U. after going to U.N.C. for two years. Anyone (who doesn't already know) want to take a guess where we all went? (I'll give you the answers at the bottom of the post)
CSU to me, for instance, is in Fort Collins, Colorado. How many of you think it's in California?
It would be nice if, at least for the sake of other readers on this board, we spelled out the name of the college.
My other suggestion is that none of us ever again write, "I know at my school..." We may not know where you go to school, so the information is sometimes meaningless.
Same with, "In my fraternity/sorority/chapter, we do..."
There's some pretty interesting stuff discussed in this forum. It might be more interesting if we could put it in better context in terms of GLO/School/location.
Thanks.
(Answers to above)
I graduated from Ohio University
My son attends Oklahoma University
My daughter graduated from Ohio University after attending the University of Northern Colorado.
Any surprizes there? Any wrong assumptions?
I rest my case.

Many times you can figure this out by reading the location. There was a recent thread about someone who pledged Alpha Chi Omega at OSU... Her location tag said Stillwater, OK -- that'd be Oklahoma State.
But yes, many times this can be confusing...
I'd say that more often than not though your actual location is one of the least important parts of what you're trying to say.

True. Unless you gave your home region when registering, and go to school out of state.
I guess what I'm really subtely trying to point out is a sort of innocent, unintended arrogance that, "everyone knows that OSU means Ohio (Oregon, Oklahoma) State because I know it."

Well, I never met OTW but I did go to U of H (Houston). I also attended UT but I was in TX, not Tn.
I know what you mean, it really can be confusing!
Loved the OU example!

Thank you DeltAlum. That's an excellent point.
I also thought this was funny because I can be talking to someone in Denver and say my brother goes to UNC. 8 times out of 10 they'll say "Oh, North Carolina?" No, try an hour and a half north of here. Silly people.

I'd like to add another one to this list: if you're referring to the University of Kansas, it's KU. If you're referring to the University of Kentucky, it's UK. Do not ever confuse these two!!! People from both states (myself included) are very touchy on this subject

Okay, on that note. Road Rules flashes on the screen that Sara goes to UC Boulder. It's CU, no one EVER calls it UC. Ever.

But in Ohio, it's the University of Toledo.
And, of course there is our long time arch rival Miami...
of Ohio.
I believe the point is being made.

To make things worse. Toledo use to be known as Toledo University , hence TU..now its simply University of Toledo. So we have a ton of people saying u go to TU? Its so confusing.

USC
I get the point. But when most people say USC, they think of my alma mater, the University of Southern California, not South Carolina.
