official new name for Rho Chis

NPC has chosen "Sigma Rho Chi" (sorority rush counselor) as the "official" term to replace Rho Chi, although schools are free to use other names.

I really feel like this "official" term isn't really going to make a difference. They should have made this "official" when they first asked schools to stop using the term Rho Chi.

I agree. I know they probably wanted something that sounded as close to "Rho Chi" as possible, but "Sigma Rho Chi" is too long . . . I think Rho Alpha or Rho Gamma would have been better. And yeah, it's getting to the point where it's really too late to come up with an official replacement. Some schools are still using Rho Chi (I know mine still was when I rushed this year) but everywhere else seems to have come up with their own variation -- I know I've seen at least twenty.

Even if it does ever become standardized again, it will take a while.

I agree too on the whole lengthy wording of "sigma rho chi" but as longs as the women being recruitment counslers do their job then that is all that matters right! Our campus used "Rho Gamma" this year it work pretty well and we caught on quickly.

We use Gamma Chi (Greek Counselor), and it has caught on well. Since there is only one letter changed it still sounds sort of the same, making the name transition easier.

I agree Leslie, and I don't see the point in saying "this is official, but if you really want to use something else you can."

No wonder we are still having frills rush 10 years after it was supposed to be gone.

I know one campus that used Greek Life Guide (no greek letters attached) and I thought that worked pretty well.

Being the dinosaur that I am, I still use the old terminology at times. Talk about lengthy--"recruitment" instead of "rush", "potential new member" instead of "pledge", etc.! No wonder COB and AI are so popular--by the time you get all the new terminology out, the parties are over and everyone has graduated!!!

Our school used Rho Gammas this last year and it caught on really well. It still had the two syllables and all teh songs we used to sing about our Rho Chi's fit. I think that Sigma Rho Chi is just too long...

From what I understand, Rho Chi is the name of a chemisty honors society or something to that effect. I was told that they threatened to sue if we didn't stop using the term.

my school calls them "Pi Chi's" for panhellenic counselor.
