Advice needed...

I am the official webmaster of my sorority. I work under the PR Chair and she and I ended up having some personal differences that made it difficult to work together and a lot of things aren't getting done pre-rush.

I was asked to be the webmaster last semester and was told that writing and updating the site would be my job until I graduate in 2004. I wrote all the code, and created all the images for our website, then uploaded it onto a free server. Well, the PR girl got a webmaster friend of hers to copy the site and upload it onto a domain that she bought for our house. Then she proceeded to e-mail our list server and tell everyone that she did everything. I got mad, then e-mailed everyone back saying that she did nothing but put down money.

I do understand that what we both did was petty and stupid, however, now she won't discuss meeting with me so we can work on updating the website. I've been politely and professionally trying to get ahold of her to set up a time where we can meet and do it, but she continues to ignore me.

This wouldn't be a big deal, except that she is ignoring my pleas to give me the passwords to the file managers so I can work on it. So the site is in-limbo right now because she doesn't have my expertise and I don't have her passwords.

Now, we have 3 weeks until rush and nothing on our site is updated.

It's stressing me out. I'm the one that will get the blame if the site stays untouched.

I'm more than willing to bury the hatchet so we can work on this professionally, but it appears that she is holding a grudge.

It's even more frustrating that I work UNDER someone, when the Webmasters for the other chapters of my sorority are all their own individual Exec Board position.

*sighs*

Someone please have something to say regarding this. I'm at a loss.

I think you have done all you can do here...you have tried to contact her and work with her in a polite manner...and she's ignoring you...and obviously neither of you can complete the site without the other person. So, your website is at a standstill.

This isn't fair for the rest of the group, and the argument between you two could potentially prevent you from recruiting new girls and have a bad impact on your rush.

In AST, we have a saying of how things should be done...and that's "In the best interest of the sorority". It really sucks, because sometimes it means giving up your own pride or opinoin for the better of the whole group, but that's the point of a greek house, working together to achieve something bigger than yourself.

I would suggest, since you have already attempted to handle this on your own, that you call your chapter advisor. He/She can serve as a mediator. And what about the Chapter President? She should have the authority to make a decision which will determine how the site will be put up in time for rush.

I hope this helps...I can see that you have an annoying situation you are going through right now.

Just remember that despite what this other sister says, the people you care about in the sorority will know that you were the one who did all the work for the website, because you'll tell them. And when someone else contradicts that, those are the women who will come to your defense and set the record straight that YOU did it, and the other girl just paid a few bucks to get the credit. Everyone will find out the truth sooner or later.

Ouch. Never a good thing when problems between two sisters get in the way of the smooth functioning of a chapter.

From what you've said, it sounds like you've done everything you can to try to settle this between the two of you. So is there someone you can escalate this to? For instance, talk to your rush chair and point out that your recruitment will be unsuccessful unless your website is updated, and your PR chair is standing in the way of your ability to update the site.

If you still have that free server, can you make the updates there and publicize its URL instead of the paid one?

Advice

Shine,
Given the information provided I would think that your best bet would be to talk to the president and have her either set up a conflict/resolution mediation between the two of you or have her exercise her power and delegate action. Obviously there's a series conflict that is directly impacting the welfare of your sisterhood. I'm not familiar with your sorority's code of ethics or conduct of becoming a sister but what I do know is that the true bonds of Greek unity are like no other thing. Brother and Sisterhood is something special. I firmly believe that the preservation of your sorority's ideals should be preserved. If the president is indecisive then perhaps the council of officers should meet and discuss the best interests of maintaining integrity within the sisterhood. Best Wishes, Mystic Cat32

Shine-
I too know hte frustration of web design. I was the psuedo-web master for our chapter, but you said that you had it posted somewhere else, could you not go back to the orignal page that you designed and update that ? So at least something is updated.

As far as the disagreement with your sister goes, I would say it is time to call in 3rd party intervention. Rush is important for every chapter no matter how large or small and PNM can pick up on tensions. I would sugguest that when you get back to campus perhaps have an advisor or standards chair step up and help smooth things over.

You admited you were wrong in what you did, that is the first step. Best of luck and welcome to Greek Chat

Thanks for all the input. I think my only course of action is to go to my president and ask her to intervene.

I have never wanted anything but to keep the best interests of my sorority.

Which at this time is to get the damn site updated for our rush.
