Red Meat
I'm giving up red meat!
Everytime I eat red meat it feels like I have a brick sitting in my stomach for days. I'm not bulimic or anything but damn I just want to cram my finger down my throat to make myself throw up.
I'm not giving up meat totally. I still eat chicken.
Any other non red meat eaters out there in GC land?

In my family red meat at every meal is the norm. I am trying to give up red meat, but not all-together. I am allowing myself red meat once a week, maybe twice. I don't want to throw my body into shock or anything. It's been difficult, but I know it's for the best. When I actually take the time to cook chicken or fish, I tend to eat healthier sides. I hope to one day no longer be a red meat eater....one day.

I had someone tell me that red meat can take as long as 6 to 8 months to fully digest in your system. And that Chicken takes a while too, but not as long.
Perhaps if these above statements are true, that is why you can't take meat...maybe it just digests poorly in your system?
Maybe take a break from red meat and try things like lite turkey and ham sandwhiches and broiled chicken. Perhaps add some fiber to your diet which will help flush out your system...
Just some ideas!

Yeah, I actually gave up red meat a long time ago. My story is a little different though. My dad is a hardcore sport hunter. In fact he's going to Africa for the second time later this year. I think having dead animals in our garage and learning where meat comes from when I was VERY young had some adverse affects on me.
For instance, my mom tells this story of when I was four and she was serving meatloaf. She sat it down in front of me and I wrinkled up my little nose and asked "What animal is this?" She said it's cow, eat your dinner. I refused and ended up sitting there for most of the evening.
Later, at age 7 I announced "I'd be a vegetarian but I don't like vegetables!"
I haven't eaten a hamburger or hot dog since mid elementary school. I fully gave up all red meat sometime in junior high. I eat chicken occasionally and fish a little more often. It drives my family insane that I'm this picky. Also, I just spent the weekend at a family wedding and all the food served involved red meat such as hamburgers the first night, egg and ham quiche the last morning.... basically not planning for those of us that don't eat that stuff. I went hungry a lot. Fortunately, my boyfriend is very good about indulging my eccentricities and most of the time it's not a problem.

It's not that I eat a lot of red meat...I would say that I eat it once a week, twice at the most. I almost always each chicken or turkey.
I think you're right Hootie...my body must not be able to digest red meat properly.

I don't eat any red meat, at all, ever. I am a vegetarian, so I don't eat any meat or meat products, including chicken and fish. It's been YEARS since I've had meat, and I don't miss it at all.

Ah..my affair with meat.
I was actually vegan for over 2 years in high school, but I ended up with defficiencies of all sorts. You can easily avoid this, but I traveled the entire summer all over Europe and was only eating bread and fruit. I lost too much weight and had major iron problems.
My mother really never cooked any red meat when i was growing up so I never grew accustomed to it. I haven't eaten a burger or any other type of red meat since I was probably 8. I refuse to eat shell fish and can't palate most sea food period. Isn't that awful? I must be the worst date!
So I stick to turkey and chicken (white meat only). It's really very easy. And I highly doubt my body produces the proper enzymes to break down red meat any more any way.
If you do enjoy your burgers, I reccommend Boca burgers. They taste incredibly and are really very healthy.

My family stopped eating red meat at 5. We eat chicken, turkey, fish, seafood. Turkey Burgers are really yummy. If you are a vegetarian beans are a good source of protein.
