New Recruitment Counseler
It's just a couple more weeks until I am a Recruitment Counseler and I am so excited! So I took the class and we got to have a question and answer session with past Recruitment Counselers but I'm wondering if anyone has any last minute advice. I especially want to hear your so-called horror stories. Thanks a bunch, AX

When I was going through rush, I had the rho chi from hell. She didn't do anything beyond meet with us and give us our invites/bids. She gave us no indication of appropriate dress for each round, didn't do anything to console people who were cut, etc. I suspect she just became a rho chi so she wouldn't have to rush as a sister. When I became a rho chi myself, I tried to be a little more approachable and friendly.
Have fun and don't stress!

My only advice is be there for the girls.. Most of the girls are probably freshmen and are nervous about going through rush. So be there. My rho-chi gave me her phone # and I knew I could call her anytime, which was great. Also, just be careful not to say anything bad or negative about the other sororities. But just be there, support them, and let your group know that they can come to you with any questions and concerns.

hehe just a horror story for you...
one of the rho chi groups that came through rush last year had a particularly overactive bunch of PNM's in it. One of the girls went to a party and when she was offered m&m's, she said she didn't like a certain color and the sorority girl rushing her didn't know what to do...she ended up picking out all of that color for the PNM.
The other girl was waiting outside one of the houses before a party started. Normally, the sorority girls sing songs and fling open the doors to start the party....so, this PNM kicked the door when it flung open and made it look as though the sorority girls had smacked her in the face with the door...
...made life pretty exciting for the sororities that week..i can remember everybody groaning when we had to face that rho chi group...

I know that my Rho Chis (as we were allowed to call them back then! ) had us guess what they were each day of recruitment. We would write down what sororities we thought they were in at the end of every day. We thought we had them figured out, and on bid day, we found out we were right at revealing! It's fun for the last activity for the day.

When I rushed we all knew what my Rho Chi was and she totally influenced us... one night I tried to cut her sorority and she came up to me and told me not to cut them, to cut someone else. Last year when I was a Rho Chi I made a point to not give me affiliation away and to be there for each of my PNMs. I gave them my phone number, dorm room, etc, and even took some out and showed them around town.. I'm still friendly with even the ones who didn't pledge w/ my group!
