Spring Semester Freshmen Rush

My school now has Fall semester rush for sophomores who want to join sororities. (The procedures for men aren't formal.) Anyway,is there anyone out there who has their rush occur Spring semester freshmen year? My school wants to implement Spring semester rushing for freshamn, so I was just curious to see what has worked and how it has worked. This would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I understand that the University of North Carolina at Charlotte began having deferred Rush in January this year. They will have informal and COB in the fall for sophmores and up, but freshmen must wait until spring semester for Formal Rush. Contact someone there to find out how it went for them.

Georgetown College in KY has deferred rush, they always have so far as I know and they love it!!!

My school, Bloomsburg University of PA had deferred rush. It worked well, but it also gives women the opportunity, and time, to hear reputations and bad mouthing of sororities before they go through recruitment. I do think it is important for freshmen to orientate themselves to school before beginning pledging though. It has been successful for us, as we used to have Fall Formal Rush for Sophmores, but we switched because less women were rushing.

I think it's a good idea, but not one that NPC supports overall.

My school has deffered rush. I think it works pretty good, because it gives people a chance to meet everyone, and go to all the parties, instead of just who their highschool friends are, or their roomates hang out with.

Ummm...I don't know what gave you all the impression that my school was doing deferred rush...I'm not even exactly sure what that is. What my school wants to implement would be rushing and pledging during the spring semester of freshmen year, for both men and women. Does anyone do this, and if so has it worked? (And by the way, what would be deferred rushing? I don't see how what my school is doing could be deferring anything.) I think I'm confused!

Yeah, that is what we have here. We also have fall rush for non first semester freshman. I will be there next semester.

We do Deferred (Spring) Recruitment. Email me if you want info, advice, etc.

Florida State brought up the subject this year, but the idea was tabled for discussion until next year.

All NPC sororities and the NPC itself do not support deferred recruitment.

I know NPC would not agree with me, but I am 110% in favor of deferred rush!! Since I don't want to repeat myself, here's a thread:

IMHO I really think NPC needs to rethink their stance on this. I think there are a LOT of women who would be wonderful in a sorority, but don't want to be pressured to make that "1st semester freshman or never" choice. It's not like that everywhere, but at the schools where it is like that (LSU as a basic example) it seems like a rule on the level of e=mc2. Not everyone (myself included) is mature enough to make that decision two seconds after they leave their parents, friends, hometown and settle into a totally new world. I would rather have a junior give her all for the two years she's there, and enjoy it enough to stay involved after graduating (it IS a lifetime commitment after all, so what will 2 years matter in a life?) than have someone pledge as a freshman and be so burned out by her senior year that she never wants to hear sorority again.

hey kappa girl, i go to univ of maryland and we do spring formal rush for freshmen. its actually pretty good, cause during fall u get to settle in and if u want u can even go to some informal rush parties(u just cant sign bids or pledge til u have 12 credits). so yeah it works well!
