Meet My Folks

NBC's newest Reality Show, Meet My Folks, will debut in July.

The premise: Dating couple goes to stay with her folks for a weekend a la Meet the Parents with Ben Stiller.

They are really scraping the bottom of the barrel for reality show ideas now.

I always say that I'm not going to watch those reality shows. I still end up watching them anyway.

Unfortunately, not enough people don't watch these "reality" shows. TV runs on eyes. Eyes equal advertising caiche.

I agree that these reality shows are getting a bit out of hand. Last night I was flipping through the channels and came across this one show called "Cheaters." People who are suspicious of their girlfriends/boyfriends cheating on them call up the show and have them spy on their significant others. Then when they have the videotaped evidence that they are indeed cheating on them, they break the news to the people and tape them confronting their cheating girlfriends/boyfriends. Jeez, what producers will come up with these days to get ratings... Though, I must admit, I saw this show at 2am... couldn't sleep, so maybe that says something about its time slot

Cheaters

That is a GREAT show. It comes on after SNL here. A lot of times, its funnier than SNL. There was one where the guy being cheated on went apeshit on the guy (it was his best friend) and tried to beat the crap out of him. And the girl is going "but I didn't mean it..." It was so hilarious. It happened at a restaurant and all the waitstaff and everyone were outside watching.

They'll do just about anything! This whole reality tv thing is overplayed and will soon die off. Thank goodness!

I will admit, though, I do love the Real World! But what can I say, it's been around for a number of years, unlike most of these others that are just popping up!

Arrow Meet My Folks Additional Information

About the Show
Forget having to impress the date of your dreams -- first you have to pass parental inspection in this one-hour reality game show. In the first episode, three eligible bachelors spend three days with their potential Miss Right -- and her family in their home. During the course of the long weekend, each contestant's character and intentions are put to the test through a series of revealing conversations and interactions with the parents of their potential love match. The ultimate victor will enjoy a week in Hawaii with the woman of his dreams – if he gets her family's blessings. "Meet My Folks" is from NBC Studios and Nash Entertainment. Bruce Nash ("World's Most Amazing Videos") is the executive producer.

Red face

I think this show may have some potential. Especially if they make it controversial, for example, if someone has conservative parents and they bring home a date of the same gender or different race.

True that will be good.

In the preview I saw, one of the boyfriends was getting a lie detector test a la Meet the Parents.

You know what's funny... if I remember correctly, one of the guys that will be trying to win over this girl's parents in Meet the Folks, was on MTV's dating show Dismissed. In the commerical, the guy is taking a lie dectector test and they ask him if he wants to sleep with their daughter. He looks familiar, and I am pretty sure he was on Dismissed or one of those other dating shows.

I just saw the promo for this show. It looks like it will be funny. I probably will watch it. It kinda seems like the bachelor but funnier.
