Question Skits: good and bad

Since rush is right around the corner, I was thinking about the skits that are put on by each house. What skits have you seen that were so great that you were just amazed? Also, what skits have you seen that made you leave the house wondering, "What was THAT!?"

good and bad

I rushed last year and there were few skits, that i fell in love with.. for example, one with britney spears and a pepsi theme that was great.. and one was TRL and that was awesome too, it really depends on the music they used. i think that makes a big difference. Then, there was one where they used Saturday nite live and mary catherine, it was just a little too weird for my taste.
but i think targeting girls with the good songs is a great way to go.
Love
Ashley

I saw this one skit last year, a TRL theme. It was SOOOOOOOO loud and annoying I wanted to put a pen in my eye. My advice to chapters, it's ok to yell sometimes, but do not scream for an entire party...you will hurt our ears!

The problem with skits, as with most themes, is that very few themes appeal to everyone. Girls who can't stand Britney are going to run when the see a Britney skit ... girls who think "Grease" is over-rated are going to flee when you base your song on "summer love," etc. But if the girls in the house are into, say, Britney, you probably want rushees who share your taste, so it's all good.

Personally, my favorite skits are more talk-less song. Or use a song that's old, so people maybe have less strong reactions to it. Or best of all, use a couple of songs that are both trendy but appeal to different people.

Just remember, your skit is one great chance to show rushees "this is what our house is about." So think long and hard about the message you're putting out!

i couldn't stand the greese skit!!! i thought it was totally cheesy!
one glo on my campus did a "laugh-in" skit...it was hysterical!
one did a "music awards" night...i totally think it was to showcase their country-line dancing talent!
and my org has done: "back in time with AZD" which is like little skits with music from the founders time until now. it goes from really classical, to totally retro, to 80's, to now...and its done in black light. it looks really cool! we also did a "The wizard of Alpha Xi" ...which was an elon version of "the wizard of oz". and dorothy follows the brick road through the greek courts until she trips over a brick (our walkways are brick and they are notorious for coming loose and you busting face in the middle of the courts) and she is trasformed to the magical land of Alpha Xi...where she realizes that there is no place like home. some of it is a little cheesy but we got such good reviews the dean of student life and the greek coordinator came to watch the skit one night.

I saw a saturday night live skit that was very funny and got the point across without being too long and boring...keep it short and sweet is the best suggestion i think.

Third round was the reason I decided to go DG. The skit was HILARIOUS!!! I'm not going to tell you the theme, b/c we're using the same one this year, but it wasn't even the theme that made it so great, it was just the fact that the girls were so funny. Humor's important, just remember that. The other three sororities that I went to were ok skits, and good themes, just not as funny and well put together. The one sorority had a "reunion" show of their girls... it was a good idea.
