J. Jill?

Hey girls......
I have been on a mail-order catalog ordering spree, and I just sent away for a J.Jill one. What are their clothes like? What age group? Expensive? Style? Etc.......

Hi. We have a J.Jill store here in Birmingham, AL. They have beautiful clothes. The clothes are very well made and you can have the pieces for a while. It's a little on the expensive side though. It's worth it, if you have to dress well for work or school. Age wise, I would say it's for the /mid late twenties- forties crowd. Enjoy the catalog and clothes. Lisa

I don;t know if this will help or hurt you.....but.......my mom loves J Jill...she orders like A LOT of clothes from there. She's in her early 40's. She's a "cool" mom though, so don't think it'll be full of moo-moo's and aprons.

Moxie -

There is a j. jill at South Hills Village and Ross Park if you want to check them out in person. Yes, we are actually moving into the 1990's in Pittsburgh!

Lisa F's appraisal is pretty on target.

J. Jill

J. Jill, in some ways, reminds me of Chico's or Eileen Fisher. The clothes look good and they have larger sizes (big ups to them), but they sort of remind me of what I would call Park Slope divorcee-gently aging baby boomer gear.

Yeah, my mom loves J. Jill. I like it on her (sort of trendy-ish but age appropriate for the middle age crowd - I mean, you wouldn't catch my mom dead in a tube top!) but I wouldn't wear it yet.

To me, jjill clothes appear to be worn by hip yet earthy moms in their late 30s who have young kids and who always look put together and walk along the beach at dusk carrying their shoes and brushing their gently highlighted hair out of their faces.

That said, I am not a mom and not in my late 30s and I have found a few things from their catalog that I really like. In my opinion, their sizes run a little big. I think you can order at www.jjill.com if you're into online shopping.

Talbots

Talbots is a good choice, if you like your gear on the traditional classic side. They have misses, petites and larger sizes.

Anybody know of any stores in this vein that carry juniors sizes? I've checked out Talbots/Anne Klien/etc. but all they seem to carry are Misses sizes, which just don't fit me right, and nothing smaller than like a 6/8 - help? I need some nice work clothes.

Anne Klein should have petites, and I know Talbots has petites in its catalogs. Talbots has petite stores, but I'm not sure if they have one in Wisconsin. The site is www.talbots.com.

Also, brands such as INC, Banana Republic, Ann Taylor have petite lines.

Steeltrap, is it just me or has the INC line become a little more...ummm...as my parents would say "different" since Heather Mills got involved? It seems like everything has a fugly ruffle on it. Bleah!

You're right, 33.

Some of the pieces do have fugly ruffles, so I look for those that are plainer, like some of the sweaters and shirts. I'm not a ruffle girl, outgrew those when I was a kid.

BTW, Heather Mills, err, McCartney has a ways to go before she catches up to stepdaughter Stella (who is very near her age, BTW), in the fashion design fame pantheon.

I don't need petites, I'm 5'9 I just need small/juniors sizes (3/5)

Misses sized clothes just don't fit a tall skinny girl right

I know it's been mentioned Ginger, but have you tried Ann Taylor? They have a wide range of sizes (I believe starting at a 2) and interested shoppers can find things for petites, average, and tall. You can shop AT online as well. I really love AT but I find that their pants can be a little more "mature" and a bit "high waisted" for my taste, but their suits, dresses, and tops are great and incredibly well made.
