Trading Places for 48 Hours
Choosing ANYONE, if you could trade places for 48 hours, who would you pick to be and why?
**can be more than one person**

I'd like to be
my Grandmother any days between 1992 when her mind died due to Alzheimer's and 1999 when her body died.

I'd like to switch with
MY MOTHER... I would love to know and understand what makes her tick. She's a strong woman but we are very different from each other and she ends up getting on my nerves.

I have 4
I thought long and hard on who I would want to trade places with:
1. I would want to be any ONE of my founders as they strived to make DST a reality. This could be from when they first expressed that they wanted to change the scope of AKA or as DST began to become a sharper entity. I would definitely want to participate in the Suffrage March.
2. I would want to be Halle Berry the night she won that Oscar to know how it feels to accomplish what she was not expected to accomplish and to know her secret secret thoughts. I want to know her tears of joy, accomplishment and hugging Denzel and Eric would not be so bad either.
3. I would want to be a slave on the Middle Passage -- laying there knowing that deep within my life was forever changing and to have a better concept of what was TRULY endured on the Middle Passage. Would I have been an agitator or a go with the flow? No one wants to be in a position of degradation but the past few months, I have been face to face with slavery teaching the Narrative of Frederick Douglass and showing my students ROOTS. Being so intimate with slavery for this long of a time has caused me to reflect and ponder slavery all over again. I have always been interested in slavery -- all aspects of it. I ADMIRE all of our forbears who stood in the trenches of slavery. I actually would want to be a slave any time in the 48 hours of the hundreds of years of slavery. I know I am always complaining about how tired I am and there is no way my work day even comes close to that of what a slave endured.
I know slavery is one of those parts of out history that leaves a deep scar, physical and emotional, on us as BLACKS but that is one of my choices.
4. Lastly I would want to be my dad as he spent his last 48 hours on earth. Did he think of me and my brother? Did he know that I was calling him? Did he know that I was sorry? Did he know that I was on my way? I want to know what it is like to lay in that bed and know that you will never walk out of the hospice. I want to know how he felt about dying and his life as well.

I would trade places with:
1. Sarah Jessica Parker and raid her dag gone closet. She wears the same size that I do and she dresses so well, so I know that I would have a lot to choose from. And, I know that I would appreciate all of those Manolo Blahnik and Jimmy Choo stillettoes way more than she does.
2. My grandmother. I would love to be in her place for any two days of her life. She'd been through so much and always remained so strong and I just have to see how she did it.
3. A white college female. I have always wondered how different it really is to live in this country as a white woman and a black woman. People can put on makeup and write about it all they want. But, I need to see and experience for myself.

Crimson, this is deep. My guess is if you traded places with your Dad you would know that he probably thought about his two greatest loves--you and your brother, and was comforted by the fact that he knew the love was returned and no apologies were necessary.
I would trade places with my Mother to get a better understanding of her life's challenges. This would then help me to be a better daughter while she is still on this Earth.

For 48 hours...
My "ooh you nasty" answers:
Pauletta Washington (so me and Denzel could roll around in baby oil and get freaky deaky)
Halle Berry (so me and Eric Benet could roll around in baby oil with that Oscar)
The actresses who play Terri, Maxine, or Bird (so me and Damon, Kenny, or Lem could roll around in baby oil fakin' like we havin' sex)
Oprah (so I could satisfy my shoe fetish by buying as many different pairs as I wanted...and then me and Stedman could roll around in baby oil AND money until our bodies were coated with both)
My "I'm curious" answers:
My maternal grandma when she was a student at Tuskegee (so I could see what it was like back then, and if all the stories she tells about how my late granddad was JOCKING her are true, LOL.)
My recently dearly departed and cherished paternal grandmother as she was making a quilt (so that I could try to absorb some of her quilting skills - one of my biggest regrets in life is that I didn't get her to teach me how to quilt before she died )
My "I wonder" answer:
Any man (but preferably a cute one so I could get some and see what it's like walking around with a thang between ya legs that controls your life and decisions and such. And the way their minds work...phew!! I wonder...)

Oooh soror, you are BETTER THAN ME. I could barely sit through the HBO movie "The Middle Passage", much less imagine being a slave on one of those ships. The movie was HORRIFIC, especially when they showed the children (I had totally blocked out the fact that they took children). As I watched, I was sitting there thinking, "I never would have made it", but actually, I am a strong individual who perseveres, and I have a strong "constitution" (I very rarely get sick, and have never been in the hospital) so I probably could have made it physically, but MENTALLY, phew...

I would choose to be absolutely insane for 48 hours so that I can put a couple of folks in check! lol NO really, I would trade places with a genuine psychic. I've always wondered what is was like to be able to see things before they happen or look at someone and see their entire life in fron of you like an cean view.

btw, Good topic!!!
Ok, here are mine:
Any one of my Twenty Pearls. I would LOVE this!! I have SO many questions!!! It'd be nice to have that wealth of knowledge for two whole days. And that way, that Pearl would be brought back to life, through me, and she would get to see how far Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated has come!!! It would be a glorious two days for us both!!!
ANY baby... I'd like to see exactly what it's like to think when you can't talk. I want to know if they understand and can really communicate with each other. I want to know what their vision is like. And I want to know what it's like to create completely new memories from absolutely nothing.
George Bush on 9/11/02. Actually, I wouldn't've wanted to BE him, but be in his head like in Being John Malkovich. I want to see and hear what went thru his head... "D*mn, shoulda never cheated on those ballots..."
One of the Egyptian workers that built the pyramids. Then when my 48 hours are up, I can tell yall how it happened. Wait, is time travel included in this? Cuz I'd have to go way back for some of these. Shoot, this my fantasy... time travel is included!!!
The person who directed the D'Angelo video Untitled. Oh hell yeah.
Mary, mother of Jesus, when she got pregnant. I would LOVE to know what that was like. Yall know if that happened today, wouldn't nobody believe her!
Mother Theresa. When I think of service, this is who I think of, and I'd like to be her for just 2 days.
Princess Di. (Dang, a lot of my people are dead) Who wouldn't want to know what it's like to be a Princess???
A man while he's runnin' his game. I just want to know if they really think we are stupid, or if they are just stupid and like to take stupid risks. I want to know if the genitals get in the way. I'd like to have a couple days that I didn't have to carry the boobies. And I would love a day without a bra. Lawd. This would be lovely. But not forever, don't get it twisted, I DO NOT have penis envy!
And, like CT4, I'd like to change places with my parents right before they died. I have a ton of questions. Were they proud of me is the one I want most answered. Then I just have general questions that I never thought was important. I'd like to compare and contrast their experiences during the Civil Rights movement since one lived up north and one down south. I could go on for days on this one.

One More
I want to be Malinda Williams the next time she tapes a love scene with Darrin DeWitt Henson. You know I would keep messing up accidentally on purpose to keep running the scene over and over and over and oooooover.
I want to be the bath water of Omar Epps or Morris Chestnut, LMAO.

Present Day
I would trade places with Janet Jackson during a concert to see what it feels like to have Abs like that and to feel the energy of the crowds yelling and crying at your mere sight. And to have every man in the place BEGGING to come on stage with me! hahahaha
This may sound corny but I would trade places with Gwendolyn Boyd for 48 hours during the convention just to witness first hand the politics and excitement of Delta in a front row seat! (and also to walk in the processional with a sharp robe on) hahahahaha!!
And ...amazingly, I would also trade places with a guy to see just how easy it is to run the Bogus lines on women...cause like someone already said...they really must get away with it alot!
Past
I would trade places with a slave who was on the underground railroad with Harriet Tubman to see how she did it. (after all...she never lost a passenger)
A jazz pianist during the Harlem Rennaisance.
Man there are so many that i could think of!
