I was just wondering how other chapters go about their food drive? Do you have any kind corporate sponsorship, alumni donations, school help, or do you just drop the bags off and pick them up? Do you do any kind of PR / Advertising? We are such a small school in a small town, and a small chapter, I am looking for other ways to out do the totals from previous years. Any ideas are appreciated.

we usually ask faculty and staff at school, and also the other greek orgs. we doubled our total from 2000 i think last time. some chapters do the food drive throughout the year, but we usually just drop off and pick up bags once a year. also, some sort of party where the cost is a canned good is a good idea too

Talk to your local food bank and find out their policy on cash donations. Some food banks will count $ as X pounds of food (e.g., they add 15 pounds to your total for every $1.00 you give them). Not all food banks are the same, though, and you shouldn't view this as an alternative to actually picking up the food.

Thumbs up

Jon, some good points!

Steve glad to see you back up and runnig!!!

We have a Western Week as opposed to the SX Derby Days and we get food donations then! We also do the Hot Tub for Ron Mc Ds and the food we get is saved for the food drive! $ goes to Mc D House!

I am going to suggest that the Alums get involved and when they come to the Pitt. that thay bring Canned goods with them!

For a small chapter we always do well on the food drive compared to bigger schools!

Suggest that when it starts, contact the local News Media and have them air or print something up about dropping goods off and make sure that it states the food is for the local food banks!

Great PR for the Everyday folks that think Greeks are a bunch of partiers and drunks!

Brother Jon, keep up the good work on the Chapter Site! It still is the Best!!!!!!

A really good idea is doen by the brothers from St. mary's here in town. They are a very small private catholic residential school, yet they so almost as much as we do. (they only have 3000 students, and a chapter of about 20...we are at a large state university of 20,000 and have 65 members.) They kick our ass every year at the food drive. What they do is they strike a deal with the food service provider for the university (Aramark, Marriott) and they get the students permission to charge $1 or $2 to ther meal card and that translates to XX amount per dollar value, then the food srevice provider donates cash or the food to the group to give to the food bank. Almost everyone on campus on the meal plan will donate at least a dollar. (I dunno if they do this by signing a form, or they have a special swiper, I dunno) But its a great idea.

Hope this helps.

As for us at the big chapter... we dont really block walk so much as do deals with Costco or Sams and they let us assault shoppers on their way out of the stores.

Just curious, how does everyone feel about the new legislation for general assembly? specifically, addressing changing our name to The Brotherhood of Lambda Chi Alpha ?

I think that a name change would be retarded. The organization is still the same. Maybe people thought the same about going from pledges to AM's, which I think is along the same lines, but I think that actually accomplished something, this does nothing.

Name change

Guys,
So you know, there is no name change legislation on the table. After the Regional Leadership Conferences, we decided to not bring it to GA. The response was mostly unfavorable to it.
