Why Is That
We have been around for 80 years and still most people haven't heard of our organization?!! IS that OUR faults?

what a subject!
I hate to say it but in a way I do think that we are partly to blame for our not being as known as other groups. I must admit that before I came to college, I had no idea of what SIGMA GAMMA RHO was. I had only seen one tag before college and it took me becoming a sorhor to realize what tag I was looking at all those years ago!
For example, when bet was having that step off I saw only three or four sorhors in the audience eventhough I heard that there were alot of them there, but they thought that it was best not to sit in a crowd filled with young children or something like that! They fact is that if people don't see us won't know who we are, but I think that it's changing now! I think that we are growing faster now and are much more visible than in years before so don't worry sorhor, we are on the come up!!! EEEEEEEEE-YIP!
You can find the post on page 3 titled bet step off!

Hi Soror,
I think that is partially our fault. I feel that Sigma Gamma Rho does not promote itself as much as it should. We have to realize that we are the smallest and most people have never heard of us so we have to work 4x harder than the other 3 organizations to be seen and heard.
In Sisterly love!!!!!!!

Alabama soRHOrs represent!!
Soror RHOyalty22 I know Birmingham and surrounding cities are finding out what they've been missing. SoRHOrs set it off like Cleo and 'nem at the Camille Armstrong Stepshow last year. SoRHOrs from Zeta Chi from UA won the stepshow(EEE-YIP!) and the emcee of the show even said soRHOrs were the hypest org. there. So now watch out, our city leaders will know who we are when the community benefits from the programs we provide for our communities. That's how I want us to be recognized.

Hi sorhors:
Sprinklemeluv that is a cute signature page
(Why do sigma women pass the test because of "Greater Service" "Greater Progress).
Girl I've got to use that one. But to get back on the subject, we need to be more visible, on campus, functions, ect..

Pardon me sisterfriends but I must answer your question.
I understand your frustration because I am part of a small sorority, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority (100,000+ members ) compared to Delta Sigma Theta and Alpha Kappa Alpha.
It also bothers me that a lot of people do not know about Zeta Phi Beta and Sigma Gamma Rho (We are the two best sororities in the world).
Keep this in mind, when you complete a questionnaire the first top choices are always the most popular ones. Every time I read anything on the sororities, I always see AKA first, then Deltas. So I make it a point to write Zeta Phi Beta first, then Sigma Gamma Rho second.
Just keep spreading the good news about your sorority. If someone say to you "I have never heard of Sigma Gamma Rho", Just smile and say "Just sit here and let me tell you about Sigma Gamma Rho."
Stay strong sisterfriend. Zeta Phi Beta Sorority and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority may be small. But at least we can say most of our members join to work for the sorority, not to decorate the world with their pink, green, crimson, and creme colors.

I agree with everything that's been said but all of our orgs will be overlooked/nonexistence if we don't stop all of this hazing, perps, and lay-a-way letter wearing sorors and frats.

this is for counting: how rude of you to imply that any member of AKA or DST joins for such a superficial reason. If you can't stand to see the colors close your eyes. perhaps if you focus more on representing your sorority and less time hating you would not be having this conversation.
to the Ladies of Sigma Gamma Rho you may be smaller but quality is more important than quantity.

That is so true soRHOrs, I wrote that in my letter of interest. I just think, more young woman have been exposed to the larger sororities! I don't think its our fault! I am always doing this with my nalia on. I want everyone to see that Sigma Gamma Rho, sorority, INC. does exist!
What are you supposed to do? Force ladies to join? No, we don't except mediocre women into our sorority. I think, we are doing fairly well. We are small, and to tell you the truth, I like it that way. We are truly a family. You know how we act, when we see a soror! It is truly blu-tiful!

I don't know about that. I am from Louisiana, and we were pretty scarce when I went over (not any more, though!), but most folks who had been exposed to higher education had heard of us. I wear a LOT of para and blue and gold clothes. Then there are my license plate frames. People in the PacNorthWest are being educated EVERY DAY!!!
People who I meet don't even know the names of any of the NPHC sororities or their rich histories. I think that we should promote Sigma at every opportunity and keep a positive attitude when educating the public.
*Honey, let me tell you 'bout the blue
Let me tell you 'bout the gold...*
The really sad thing is, as SoRHOr Kizzie said, with all of this hazing, ghost, and other nonsense, all of the NPHC organizations are not going to survive.

Sorhors,
I'm gonna give it to you from my perspective and years of membership since spring 83.' We have come a long way sorhors but we still have areas for improvement! Then again all organizations have areas for improvement. I must say that a lot my high school females and males know about Sigma Gamma Rho and Zeta Phi Beta because they attend the college step shows in the Greater Washington metro area. All of the graduate chapters in the area have at least 17 plus Rhoers in their clubs. From a sorhor that has been a member for awhile believe me when I tell you that a lot of folks know about us, however, it is our duty to continue to make people know what Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. has to offer to the community.

Thanks Sister PositivelyAKA. Nobody is hating over here. I appreciate your comments.
This thread is interesting. If you know our history you wouldn't even have started this one.
Thank you to all of my Sorors who posted here especially Serious Sigma and TRSimon. Keep informing!
