More MTV Stereotypes, argh!
Okay, so I got my new issue of US Weekly today, and just read the article "Which Stars Were in Sororities?" It said that MTV's documentary got them wondering about celebrities and their Greek ties. It says that they asked Jenny Oakson, "Greek-life editor of the college news service U-Wire" for the scoop. Here are the stereotypes the "Greek-life" editor perpetuated:
Delta Gamma (Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Patricia Heaton, Joan Lunden, Betsey Johnson): "In all the Big 12 schools, DGs are referred to as 'dirty girls.' They're known as slutty"
Delta Delta Delta (Katie Couric, Leeza Gibbons, Farrah Fawcett): "The sorority hasn't done much to reshape its reputation for being dumb and is sort of the sorority punching bag."
Delta Zeta (Courteney Cox Arquette, Neve Campbell, Sharon Stone): " They're good girls without much of a national reputation, which is a good thing, because you usually only hear about the people who raise hell."
Kappa Kappa Gamma (Ashley Judd, Jane Pauley, Kate Jackson): "AKA Kappa Kappa Glama. Kappas often set the trends on campus. They're fashionable and wear lots of lip gloss."
