This really hurts because I grew up on Reading Rainbow. I absolutely loved this show and can still remember some of the stories that I saw on this show. I still remember the theme song to this show as well. But, since I have no children, I had forgotten all about it. I sincerely hope that LeVar Burton can keep the show alive because it really has helped in the development of countless children.

That is such a shame. I remember most episodes of RR and most of the books that were featured and the actors/actresses that read them and/or appeared on the show. My favorite episode of RR is the one where Danny Glover read Abiyoyo, an African folk tale and then the theme of the show was music and Run D.M.C. were the special guests and they did a rap about reading and then LeVar Burton showed the kids how they produce the music for the show and talked with the head music guy, and it was so cool!!!

It would be such a shame if RR went off the air . Children today do not read enough and RR really did a good job of encouraging kids to read without turning the show into a mass-market machine.

Where are people like Bill Gates when you need them?

All you need it ONE philanthropist to get the ball rolling with a matching gift challenge....

I used to work in development, so I know how simple, yet difficult fundraising can be.

Butterflies in the sky,
I can fly twice as high,
Take a look,
It's in a book,
A Reading Rainbow....

I hope oprah or Mr. Cosby hears about this...

Favorite RR books:

Abiyoyo

A Chair For My Mother

Miss Nelson is Back

Arthur's New Eyes

The Patchwork Quilt

Gila Monsters Meet You at the Airport

Right now, I am doing a serach on Amazon.com and other book websites to find these books and buy them for my son. He loves to read and loves to watch RR. Didn't they used to sell the books that appeared on RR in stores and give the money to the show??
