Our National cannot "do" anything to prohibit the sale of these items other than what it already does, which is remind women that their badge is only leased to a person for the duration of her lifetime and therefore it is not her property to sell. There is an online alumni group called Surfing Sisters who, in the past have tried to purchase as many of the badges for rescue as possible. However, there have recently been concerns that the increased bidding is only serving to drive up the prices and encourage collectors to sell these items. HQ does not directly have a rescue program, but they will refund any member up to $50 of the purchase price of a rescued badge that is returned to National.
FYI I tried, very hard, to start a badge rescue program last year within our chapter as a chapter/pledge class philanthropy project. I got NO response. I will try again. In the meantime, I have been purchasing as many as my limited funds allow and have sent a few back to HQ on my own.
