What in the world was I thinking?
What are the biggest beauty mistakes that you've made? Things that you initially thought were good ideas, but then you look back on them and question your sanity.
I have a few
1. During my senior year of high school, I began dying my hair. First, light brown and then, bright red. The red dye starting washing out and lightening right after I had it applied. The combination of the two colors left a burnt orangy brown color on my hair. Here comes the mistake. The night before my debutante ball, I decided to get a weave. The only color that matched my "new" hair color was this bright orange shade of brown (#33 for those of you familiar with weave hair color). I didn't really think anything of it at the time. I was supposed to be getting twists in the front with long layers in the back. It probably would have been pretty if it was a normal color. But, because of the color, I came out looking like a bright orange poodle.
2. In Philly, every little nail salon has a lady who waxes eyebrows. I miss it now that I'm in Florida because everyone down here shaves them. Anyway, my normal lady was backed up and there was about an hour wait. I was going to get my senior picture taken so I decided to go to another nail salon. The lady there told me that my normal person was shaping my eyebrows wrong and that she was going to have to fix it if I wanted them to look good. Me, being sixteen, I told her to go ahead. Well, she shaped each eyebrow differently than the other. The right was much higher than the left one. In my pictures, I looked I was questioning the photographer the entire time.

neva again
Back in the day, I would only cut the front of my hair.
In 89 or 90, I cut my hair (front) with the Salt-n-Pepa stack style.
The chit wasn't even even. One side was longer, then the other side had like 2 steps in one.
LAWD! What was I thinking?

Awww heck
LMAO!!!
My biggest fashion faux pas back in the day:
1) BRIGHT RED LIPSTICK (you know you've done it). My skin color is about half-a-shade lighter than caramel... UGH... It was the time of year for Valentine's Day pictures at school. I wore some RED Cross-Color jeans with a white top, and white Nike's.
A HOT MESS.
2) Cutting my OWN HAIR in that Halle Berry style... ummm, I will leave it at that.
3) Wearing this coral dress to a Kappa Ball... HUUUUUUGE fauz pas. I tried it on in the store, it looked kinda funny, but it was a VERY pretty dress... I was going to get the black one, but "my girl" was like "NOOOOO, the coral one is straight!! I really like it, you will stand out!!!"
-- HOT FRIGGIN' MESS!!!
4) Prom day... I switched hair dressers at the last minute b/c my date changed our dinner time. Instead of telling his azz NO, I rushed around to get things done and begged my friend's hair dresser to see me. (I'd always admired her hair). I should've known better when we pulled up to this old mechanic's shop that looked like it had been condemmed. I wanted to imitate a spiral curl style that I'd seen my friend wear a few weeks before... FAUX PAS!! The hairdresser attempted to style it to my specifications to no avail citing that my "hair was too soft for large spiral curls" -- WTF ??!?!!! Long story short, she REWASHED AND STYLED MY HAIR WITH SMALLER ROLLERS AND BLACK GEL!! She told me that she was only putting a "little bit on the ends, to keep it from falling"... and that she was using smaller rollers b/c my "hair was so soft that the curls would hang a lot looser once unrolled." I believed her monkey ass... I looked like a fu**ing brillo pad by the head when I left there. I spent the next hour at home trying to loosen the curls up. Once again, to no avail. My hair had been fried into that "style" by then.
So I went to prom, looking a little better by the head... but not much.
-- A HOT RANCID MESS!!
I found out later that the spiral curls my friend had had in the weeks before were done by ANOTHER hairdresser at another shop!!!!!

So many to choose from....
1st: When I was in high school, my best friend put me on to wearing eye liner. Since she was of a darker complexion, she could pull off the smoky black liner look. Big Mistake for a red boned lady like myself. I walked around lookin like a dadburned Racoon until.....this woman on the Metro said that I should try it another way. With my teenaged hot self, I knew she was wrong. Eventually, I began to take her advice. But not before my dad told me I look like the dog from Lil Rascal. The nickname Petey has stuck ever since. :P
2nd: I had my hair cut at an angle on one side. It was very very ugly in retrospect
More to come I'm sure

I wore mood lipstick. You remember the kind that was green but when you put it on your lips it turned red.
I thought Salt and Pepa's hair was the shiznit and yep I wore the stacks, crimps, asymmetric....all that. I also wore the earrings.
Ok don't laugh but do you remember Oaktown 357? The biking shorts and patent leather shoes, yep you guessed it, I did it. I'm so ashamed
I had a pair of British Knights, Elleses, and Fila's.
When I was a teenager, I decided I wanted to wear my mood lipstick and eyeliner. Well I saw my sister do it so shoot I figured I knew what to do. Well I sharpened the eyeliner and got a lighter to melt the tip a little cause I saw my sister do the same. Well a sista got a little heavy handed with my artwork, but I didn't realize I had until a little later on. My mom looked at me and said, "what in the world is wrong with you?" "You look like what for, how come, and anyhow." That was her phrase for anyone looking a hot mess. I went to the mirror and I looked like I had been involved in a domestic dispute in the rain and I lost.

Okay, I tried the black eyeliner around the lips thing too! And when I look back at old pics, I'm like, what in the heezy was I thinking???
And when I was 16, I decided to get my hair cut. My Mom had been telling me that I shouldn't cut my hair, but I was too determined to do the do. Anyway, instead of going to my usual hairdresser (at the time, she was like one of those old lady stylists that could only do wraps and rollers!), I decided to go to a girl in my neighborhood who did her own hair. I mean her hair used to be laid, BUT in my naivete' didn't know that certain styles only look good if you have a certain shaped face. Well, she cut my hair to ear length (it was down my back before) and STACKED it out really high! It looked like I had on one of those "hat umbrellas" When I went home, my Mom couldn't resist her "I told you so" and I cried for 3 days! I had to live with it until it grew out! Needless to say, I haven't cut my hair since then, only trims for me!!!

Maaaaaan TE, you did not have to remind a sista.
Okay LMAO as I remember. In 1988 I had tickets to go to the S n P concert with Hammer, Today, Tony Toni Tone, and somebody else. Ok here was my outfit which I put together my self. I wore a white sweatshirt buttoned down the back with black stirrups. That sounds fine right?? Wrong I messed it up!! I put my black with white stripe on the side biker shorts on top of the stirrup pants and wore my WHITE LOTTOS with it!!
Second thing, back in 5th grade, our class had to perform for Ideal's 6th grade class for Christmas. THANK GOD SHE DOES NOT REMEBMER THIS. Anyway I had this big white shirt with baby blue polka dots with a blue belt on the shirt with BLACK stirrup pants. SOUNDS COOL right. WRONG!!! I am over here crying as I remember my shoes. I FOR SOME REASON in the DEAD OF WINTER was allowed to wear my YELLOW JELLY shoes. Remember those Plastic shoes!?!?!?!
Okay let me think I know I wore some more crazy stuff. Oh yeah 7th grade, dayuuuum. My mom was the QUEEN of ANTI-MALLS. We just did not shop there. Only mall clothes I had was from my granny. Anyway one weekend we were at Value City and I saw they had PONY (remember those shoes -- not NIKE but not slip 'n' slides). I bought them -- the BABY BLUE ones.
For Christmas that year I wanted Fila -- got them from MARSHALLS. Everyone kept asking where did u get those from? I used my standard line -- from outta town.
Y'all I swear after that no more bad fashion days.
I never had hair problems. Well there was that time with the WACK WRAP ARTIST but it was fixed by the time I went to school the next day.
I did do the Lee Press on Nails

Hair-
When it comes to my hair, I don't like any major changes. When I was in high school, I decided instead of cutting my hair, that I should just color it so I could give myself a different look. The problem is that I wanted sandy brown hair with blond highlights, but my hair has red undertones. The lighter that I colored my hair, the redder it got. My senior year I tried honey blonde, but it turned to fire red/orange. My complexion is kind of coppery, so it didn't look right on me. I colored it again that same week to tone down the red, and my hair fell out. It was the worst thing ever!! I ended up having to cut it off, I shaved the back and everything. I grew it right back, so by the time I started college it was in a cut style to my jaw. Now it's back to normal. I haven't colored my hair since, not even a rinse. I barely like getting a relaxer
Clothes-
The worst was this outfit that I still have nightmares about, in the seventh grade I had these black leggings with red flowers and a shirt to match, I'm cringing at the thought of it, I probably looked like a 12 year old garden. Vest are always something that I regret wearing.

Re: CTHU as I remember the CHIT I did
I'm cracking up over here. I had several pairs of jelly's. Rocks would get stuck in the heel. And who in the hell told me those shoes were made for running. I would break the plastics on those bad boys but it was ok...for some change you could always go and get a new pair on the spot.
Let me tell yall bout my 357 outfit. I had a white Team Adidas shirt with a red and black stripe, black biking shorts, red socks, black patent leather shoes while rocking the Salt and Pepa stacks and earrings. Straight off of Yo MTV Raps with Fab 5 Freddy.
I tried the black eyeliner around the lip thingy. I didn't want to be the first to say it though. I looked like a damn fool.
I also had Jam outfits. Remember those....50 million colors in a short set.
I know we got some Cross Color offenders out there.
Who wore legwarmers?

I did! I did! LOL.
BUT I was only 7 AND I only wore em in winter because I was actually cold- it seems like my 13 years in uniform saved me from some truly heinous clothing styles.
ACTUALLY I remember doing the plaid thing circa '96, when grunge was in. Had a whole lotta plaid, but didn't wear layers thankfully.
Oh and then in 8th grade there were the silver hoop earrings that were bigger than my ears.
Oh then there was the headband thing in 7th grade- I dah one that was truly HUGE- just a big ol thick headband that must have looked like a hat.
Then there was the whole orange thing- I know y'all remember when eeeeverything had to be orange, and people had those shiny jackets? I only had one t, but it was more than enough (Actually, I remember one young man in particular at a party who wore it from head to toe. He was quite dark skinned [gorgeous man, just dark chocolate, but alas far too short for my taste, lol], and when we turned the lights off it really did look like a fluorescent orange suit of clothes dancing around, lol)
And es I did the black lipliner thing too, and that is really IT!LOL

I just remembered this
Remember say in the late 80s, I know i was still in junior high wearing colored socks? No not just one pair either. I remember wearing like 3 pairs of socks just so that the MAJOR colors in my outfit were represented!! WTH was I thinking.
Picture it: RED, BLUE and BLACK shirt with some denim shorts, RED, BLUE and BLACK socks (that's 3 pairs of socks) with your Lottos, Nikes, Fila, Slip 'n' Slides , Adidas, whatever.
