Question
Hey all!
I have a very random question for you all. But first theres a little history. I rused Alpha Xi Delta last spring. Our chapter was on very rough ground and chose to close the chapter the weekend I was supposed to activate. I ended up meeting with Liz Bell (Nat V-P) and discussed my options given the unique situation. I ended up being released from my pledge, and since have joined a different sorority, which is non greek at my school.
The question I have is that I was never asked or given the opportunity to return my copy of The Bonds of Sisterhood or my pledge pin or symbols pin. I was wondering what you all suggest as to whom to return these items to?
I would also like all of you to know that I think Alpha Xi Delta is a WONDEFUL organization! As I know look back on the situation I wish I would have activated so that I could still continue as an alumni member.

*Bump*
I did recieve one PM, but I am still wondering what is the best way to go about returning these items and to whom. I would never want someone who isn't supposed to have these items.

I'm so sorry AXD didn't work out for you (or the other gals on campus) and that you've found a place you're happy now.
Just out of curiousity, what do you mean by a non-Greek sorority?

The sorority I belong to is a professional sorority, Sigma Alpha, we are an organization for women in agriculture and natural resources. Check out our national page for more info www.sigmaalpha.org
Sigma Alpha is a national sorority, but only two of our chapters are greek. Purdue is one and the other seems to be slipping my mind. Our chapter has been split on the decision to join the greek system, but after talking with panhellenic council, we really don't think it will happen. We do participate with greeks in events, mixers, etc. Mostly AGR and Farmhouse, but the Pi Phi's have asked us to do a few sisterhood events with them come fall.
This past year we found a home right on frat row and the campus seems to accept us very well. Right now we are focused on growing (who isn't though) and just keep a positive and professional image.

If you truly regret your decision not to be initiated, I would contact your National. It may not be too late. The lifetime benefits of being Greek are worth it!

I hate to be a stick my nose in here but I just wanted to add something.
Beth Fulton, a past Sigma Alpha National President, used to post on GC all the time and a similar issue came up. I remember Beth saying that an initiated member of SA could not join an NPC or NPHC organization. Beth said that SA holds her beliefs as high and dear as any NPC or NPHC and therefore, it would be a conflict of interest. She also said that SA would not knowingly initiate an initiated member of the NPC or NPHC.
Like dz4me said, if you ever have any questions about an organization's policies, contact their HQ.

That is really interesting. This is the first professional organization that I have ever heard of that considers their membership to conflict with a NPC membership.

There have been some threads on here indicating that the music sorority Sigma Alpha Iota holds that policy (at least on some campuses). But I'm too lazy to find them at the moment.
Just because an org draws its members from a certain major or interest area doesn't mean it's not social in nature. Look at Triangle or FarmHouse - both NIC fraternities that limit membership to, respectively, engineers and ag majors. And there is also Ceres, another agriculture-oriented sorority.
If Ceres grows, or SAI ever decides to pursue membership in NPC, they will however face an obstacle that the NIC groups don't, namely, formal rush. Can you imagine all the tone-deaf types being bored at an SAI party - and the SAI members being frustrated at the waste of their time and money?
