Whats been going on with EE? I know since we had such a great Rush y'all must be having a great semester. Who are y'all doing homecoming with this year? Hope we win again! Do we still do "Greek for Life?"

Thanks for the update:-)

We are doing Homecoming with Farm House this year. The semester is going great. The new girls are awesome. So sweet and excited about ADPi. Yes, we still do Greek For Life. I am not sure when it is though. If you have any more questions, feel free to email me. It is wonderful to hear from an alumna(Sorry if this is not the correct way, I forget how to say it). I hope you are doing well.

EE Pi Love-

EE

Homecoming with Farmhouse sounds great--they were always the "nice guys" when I was at Tech--very respected. Actually, I was at Tech when Farmhouse had the big split and ended up forming Beta. Farmhouse used to be HUGE in the early 90's and Beta used to have like maybe 10 guys. Farmhouse had a bunch of guys leave--like maybe an entire pledgeclass--I think it had to do with either hazing or their no alcohol policy or something.....then all of a sudden Beta had 100 guys and became cool overnight--kind of weird. I could never get used to Beta being cool...haha!

Anyway, what are the sororites and fraternities like at Tech now? You can PM me if you don't want to publically post your opinion :-)
I think it has changed SO much since I was there! I saw a map of Greek circle and ALOT has changed---there's actually a 2nd greek circle--wow! And some of the houses have changed too! I guess the sororities will always be the same though :-) You should have seen our lodge before it was redecorated--VERY 80's..haha!

I was so impressed that only 1 sorority didn't make quota. I think there was one year when only 6 made quota through Rush and 2 had to COB up to quota. I think 1990 is the last year that all sororities made quota at Tech...so things must be on the up and up. I remember times when Kappa, Tri-delt and ZTA almost didn't make quota! Theta was always strong since they focus on getting the local girls.

Anyways, I'd love to hear what Greek life is like now. I miss it---its definitly the best time of your life :-)

Smile Greeks at Tech (My own opinion)

I have friends in almost all of the sororities so here it goes...
Tri-Delts- Very nice group of girls, involved .
Kappa- Nice, I think they have around 200 girls now.
Theta- Really sweet girls, scholastic, good at intramurals.
Zeta- I don't know any personally, so I don't want to say anything about them.
Chi-O- Again don't know anyone personally.
Alpha Chi- Fun girls, sweet.
KD- These girls are awesome!!
A-Phi- Classy
DG- Nice girls
Pi Phi- Nice, well rounded.
ADPi- The Best in my opinion.
Oh yeah, Gamma Phi lost their charter last spring. I feel bad for them, they were trying....

Fraternities....

Beta- Sweet guys, real gentlemen
FarmHouse- Really nice guys, fun to hang out with
Fiji- Nice guys, Preppy, Cute!
Theta Chi- Love these boys!
Delts- Came back last spring. Nice guys.
KA- Southern Gentlemen.

Tech ADPi = Class Act

Hope you ladies don't mind my posting here. I just wanted to say, Ryan, I think you're a class act and so is ADPi. I appreciate your comments about the Tech Alpha Phis. The feeling is very mutual.

Thanks!

Fraternally,
Jen

I guess things haven't changed that much at Tech after all---your opinions sound pretty close to mine from when I was there. Like you, I had friends in each sorority/fraternity through Campus Crusade ....so it was always hard to judge the "general" personality of the groups.

Wow Kappa is HUGE! I can't believe they're bigger than Theta. When I was at Tech they were always popular during Rush but you never really heard that much about them on campus. I had some sweet KKG friends but I think some people considered them not as nice as other sororities.

I knew alot of Thetas that were really cool--very down to earth and very into their grades and leadership on campus.

When I went through Rush ('93) I knew I wanted to be in one of the "Alpha" sororities---AXO, A-Phi, or ADPi. They seemed to be the most down to earth and have the strongest sisterhoods in my opinion. From what I had heard from my fraternity friends, they were the "nice girls" of greek circle. They didn't seem to be "cookie-cutter" sororities either which I really liked--and all did lots of philanthropy. They also all seemed the most conservative and "classy"--in appearance and actions --which impressed me. I rushed as a sophmore so I kinda had a feel for the sororities before I Rushed. I have to say KKG, KAT, and Pi-Phi were also very classy/preppy girls too. Things may have changed since then but that what it seemed like to me :-)

Chi-O, KKG, KAT, Tri-delt, ZTA, and Pi-Phi were all really nice but I rushed as a sophmore and knew their "reputations" ahead of time and knew they weren't for me. They all had good reps---they just didin't feel like "home". I don't know why but I never felt either way about DG, KD, and Gamma Phi.

In the middle of Rush, I found out that one of my best friends from high-school's mom (Joyce) was an ADPi at Tech in the 60's ....and I think that's what finally made my decision. I had grown up with her son and always looked up to her. She had passed away the year before and it was a surprise to everyone. The really cool part of the story is that when I was an Alpha, her niece....who also went to my highschool...and was an ADPi at Southwestern....was in grad school at Tech and was a chapter advisor at the time. During initiation--to my complete surprise---she pinned me with Joyce's badge! It was so meaningful. I KNEW ADPi was where I was supposed to be and just goes to show that everything works out for a reason :-)

Ryan--how did you end up an ADPi? I love reading all the rush stories on here!

We just had initiation and it went so awesome. We have to have the best ritual ever. Congrats to all the other Chapters that just had initiation as well. The best of luck to everyone this year.

LET'S HEAR IT FOR "AY DEE PIE"!

(don't ask, all the sororities on campus are in this kick right now with spelling their letters out in extra long syllabols, i just thought i'd try it out)

Why I chose ADPi(Sorry it is kind of long)

I did spring rush last year (If you can even call it that). I wanted to do Fall rush, but my parents did not want me to be in a sorority. They had heard things from people(Usually second hand), that gave them a bad impression. So I rushed Miller Girls. I made it to the very end then I went home to see my parents. Bad idea. They cut me because I was not there to recieve the phone call. Oh well, all for the best! So after winter break, I called panhellenic and signed up. I recieved a letter from Gamma Phi inviting me to a "rush party" at the UC. I asked my brother's roomate, who was in a fraternity, what he thought about them. He told me not to go, so I didn't.(Bad reason I know.) (Oh yeah, before even signing up, I researched the sororities on campus, and thought I knew the ones I liked and wanted to join. They were Alpha Chi, A Phi, Theta, Kappa, and Pi Phi.) Ok, about a week after getting the letter, I got a call from DG, so I went to 3 of their things, and did not feel like the girls wanted me there. There was only like 5 girls at each event, and none of them really talked to me. I felt like I was making too much of an effort. I was the one asking the questions. Then ADPi called me. I met a really sweet girl who picked me up and drove me to the lodge for "Game night". All the girls talked to me and made me feel not so nervous. Plus they were cute and outgoing. Another thing that stood out was there were about 15-20 girls at the event. The next thing 2 other girls came and picked me up at my dorm. We talked for a while and found out that we were all in the same class. And me and one of the girls(Now my Big), played club volleyball in high school, and it turns out we knew ALOT of the same people. I knew at that point that this was more than just a coincidence, and maybe I was meant to be here. I went back to my dorm and called my parents and told them everything. I told my mom to look at the national websites and tell me what she thought. She called me back and told me she loved the way we had an Official scripture. She also told me that my Grandmother volunteers for the Ronald McDonald House. She said that DG looked good to, but thats all she said abou it. The next day DG called me with a bid, I did not want to not accept it, and then not get a bid from ADPi either. I was torn about what to do. I knew I liked ADPi better, but what if they didn't want me? I prayed about it, and the next day I called back DG, and declined the bid. That day, I got a call from ADPi asking me if I was going to the bid day party. (I didn't even know I had gotten a bid, but I was gonna be there.) It was fun. At that "party" I met a really great girl(who is now one of my best friends) and she made the decision easy. I wanted to be able to call her, and the other girls I had met, my sisters. I was sooo excited to be an ADPi! The next day I got a call from A Phi asking me to a rush party. (I was sad they did not call earlier because I would have loved to gotten to know them.) I told them I had already accepted a bid somewhere else. In the end the choice I made was a perfect fit for me. I sometimes wish I had waited untill sophomore year to rush so I could have had a chance to see all the sororities and make an informed decision. But with my GPA, I would have been cut from most of the houses anyways. ADPi is where I was meant to be. This semester I got the chance to welcome my future sister-in-law into our sisterhood. (I am so very proud!!) Any Hoo, that's my story.

Pi Love-

Thats the coolest story! You are certainly where you belong. You probably would have been happy with A-Phi too (since they look for the same qualities in potential members that we do...or at least it used to be that way)....but for some reason you're an ADPi----the "mother of all sororities" and one of the strongest international sororities! And this is just the beginning! ADPi really IS for a lifetime--my best friends are still ADPi's and I meet alums all the time and its like an instant connection. Having had friends in all of the sororities at Tech, I noticed that the "top" sororites concentrate on grades, leadership, and image....and there's nothing wrong with that. But I think with ADPi (and APhi, KD, and a few others), sisterhood comes before all of that and thats what makes us stand out. Of course it could be TOTALLY different these days but that was my experience.

Here's another funny story about how I know I was meant to be an ADPi: Last March I got married and my new last name is "Pye!" How's that for coincidence. I keep telling my husband that I married him for his name..he..he..he..

Thanks for sharing your story--everyone's story is always unique.

If TechAPhi is still there, what was your experience like with Rush at Tech?
