Talking Cake Decorating

My mom and i were intersted in taking a cake decorating class at Michaels. My aunt took this class and she does great cakes!

Has anyone else taken this class?

How much does it cost, plus supplies and how long are the classes? I know i can go to the store and find this out, but i guess i also want to know what people thought about the class overall.

I am going to ask my aunt about it too when i get the chance!

I haven't taken the class through Michael's, but I have taken a cake decorating class. I would recomend it. Granted there are tips to buy and things like that, but once you have them purchased, you can go crazy and create cool cake works of art!

I took it and I can't remember the cost but overall, it saved me a whole bunch of money and I can make great cakes now. It works best though, if you have a heavy-duty mixer to mix your frosting with.

I'm hooked! My aunt runs a cake and candymaking store in Florida and has gotten me some wonderful cake pans! My only problem: making roses. The instructor looked at mine and trilled that it was a good thing that we could all buy readymade roses.

well i called michaels today and they said the classes are $25 and they have a 50% off tuiton special, so its only 12.50. The classes start wednesday and are held every wednesday after that too from 7pm-9pm. The course is only 4 classes.

I didnt think it was going to be this cheap, but i guess its because you have to buy your own supplies and those might get expensive. Since my mom and I are going to take it together, there is no need to buy two sets of supplies.

I wonder if it would be okay for me to just go with my mom to the classes, and of course, paying the tuition, but just watching and maybe switching on and off with my mom to have hands on experience.

I am going to stop by this afternoon and pick up any registration form i will need. Ill keep you guys informed if we do end up joining, hopefully we will!!!

bucutie is VERY excited! I love baking sweets, and now i will be able to make them look good too!!!

Cool

My mom took a class back in the day through Wilton the cake pan etc maker. She really enjoyed it! I remember her making great cakes to practice on. Now of course she's the designated cake maker for just about any function! It's something I've always wanted to get better at Enjoy!

Well i was going to go pick up some information at the store, but my mom said she would do it on her way home from work. When she went she registered us and we start tomorrow!!! yay!!

We called the instructor to ask her if it would be okay for us to just buy one set of supplies but she didnt return our call. If she doesnt call back today we can just ask her tomorrow.

I heard you have to decorate a cake and bring it to class. Boy, we are going to have a lot of cakes in our house for the next month!

It's lots of fun! As long as you both paid the registration fee, I wouldn't imagine the instructor would care if you and your mom take turns or not.

Check eBay for decorating tips and other accessories. Cake decorating is a hobby people frequently give up and then sell all their stuff. You may get a good deal!

Happy cake baking!

P.S. Take some of you better looking experiments to work for your fellow employees to eat. Better they gain the weight than you!!!

Hey guys!

Well tonight my mom and i just graduated from Course #1

That class was so much fun! We are going to sign up for course #2 which starts next week! Everyone is so impressed by our cakes. Since my mom and I both each make a cake every week, i have been taking mine to work. I think all my co-workers secretly get happy when its thursday because they know thats when i bring the cake!!!

If anyone if thinking about taking this class, i definitely recommend it. We might not take course #3 though because their final cake is a wedding cake, meaning many cakes and on different levels!!

That's awesome bucutie! Is the class only about decorating, or do they give you tips on cooking as well?

Its basically only on decorating. I mean, they give you tips on flouring the cake pan, and how you would level the cake. They also tell you how to do fillings, but actual tips on how to make your cake taste better, no

When i have a lot of time on my hands i will bake a homeade cake and then put my decorating skills to use. For class, however, i bake the cakes right out of the box since making the frostings, and tinting them already takes up tons of time.
