Question Gamma

Hey what's goin on everyone...this is Neil from the Delta Lambda chapter at UNLV. I've only been an initiate for a year and I plan on running for Gamma in the fall. Besides taking role and minutes (and other secretary crap) I was wondering what the Gammas in your respective chapter do? Do they pass out agendas, weekly schedules, etc.? Our chapter's kind of on a downward trend, and I plan on doing whatever it takes to get us back to the top. Thanks for any help!

Our new Gamma has already set up a brotherhood weblist through www.yahoogroups.com. That is one of the best things accourding to older brothers. I too have only been initated for a year but don't let that discourage you. The role of Gamma is very important and I wish you the best of luck.

Welcome!

Our Gamma also maintains our webpage, as he is in charge of the information flow in the zeta. We also have the yahoogroups set up at our zeta. You will find it indespensable in communications in your chapter. we also have our gamma handle room reservations for events/meeting on campus, facilitate the stuuf for the elc, parking permits, scheduling.

Also your gamma will be responsible for rosters with the school, and general fraternity.

Good luck, and hang in there.

Yahoo Groups

Thanks for the suggestions so far guys, but what exactly does this Yahoo Group list thing do? I'm somewhat computer/net literate but is it something that everybody in the chapter can benefit from? (not just the net wizards)

In ZAX,

Absolutely. Very beneficial. All the work is done on the part of the moderator, or the one who sets up the list. He types in everones email addresss, then they all get an email saying theyve been invited to join a group. If they ddint want to belong, they could send an email saying remove, and its automatic. Basically you want to send an email to the whole chapter, you type the address, (for exapmle, unlvchoppers@yahoogroups.com or whatever you set it up as) and all 50 members or however many you list, all get the email. Its convienient, for example, most of ours are, "hey I am going to go see spiderman tonight and I have 10 extra tickets, if you wanna go, call me on my cell." or "the reception for the faculty advisors start at 7 PM, remember its coat and tie. Dont be late" Also, the guys generally conversat over it, like you would a regular conversation, talking smack, jokeing, whathaveyou. Some brothers use it to bitch about things they need to get off their chest to the whole chapter. Also our chapter minutes are emailed out on the one-list as an attachment.
