A new way of voting...TRUVOTE

I had the pleasure to use this voting system while a delegate at our SCRC. I have included a link so that you all can get more information. It was really simple to use. Truvote allows you to vote via a computer. You can either use the mouse or use the touch screen. Also, there were 2 candidates on our "ballot", the picture for each candidate was included. After I voted, the computer printed a receipt to show me everything I had voted for, not the way I voted, but every item voted on. Oh, I forgot, after each time I voted, it asked me "was I sure" if what I had chosen was the right choice. So the margin for error is reduced.

The best thing about this is that it was established by a AA male. Those of you serving as delegates in Orlando, you will have the honor of using this.

Hopefully, the inventor is going to try to get this ideal sold to the local, state and national levels so that we don't have a fiasco like we did when voting in 2000.

We NEED to be using this NOW!

Jet had an article about this around the time we were having issues with the results (and some people still got issues with the results). I think this would be a good thing, especially if we would be able to vote from home or if we had more testing sites. I heard that some colleges were using something similar to this to cast votes for their SGA officers. Do you think the idea will catch on?

Well it's about time. The voting system is in major need of an overhaul. If all the states adopt this system, it will accomplish one thing over all, standardized voting procedures and practices.

I have once concern about these systems. Will the actual computers be stand alone or will they be networked together? I hope stand alone because anytime you network computers together you run a higher risk of those machines being compromised. AKA2D '91, did you notice if there were security measures in place to assure that machines were not being tampered with?

At each computer, there was someone (teller) there who had a card that the person swiped and then they had to log in after each person had placed their votes.

PA and MD

This type of system is definitely being utililzed. In PA, they will be using this system for the primary elections in May. In MD, the governor finally announced (a few weeks ago) that funding has been approved to address this very issue; I believe the timeline is to complete implementation of a plan is by the next presidential elections.
