It's not fair
I got to work today and learned that our department head had just died unexpectedly. She had beat colon cancer 2 years ago and then was diagnosed with leukemia --caused by the previous radiation--about a month ago.
However, the doctors found a medication that was killing the cancer and they sent her home. Unfortunately, she died suddenly there... they said it was either a blood clot or a sudden attack of meningitis, doesn't matter much anymore which it was, I guess.
She was supposed to come back this summer and be teaching with us again. She was only in her fifties, well known in her field, and loved by all--how many people do you know who just adore their boss? We all did.
IT ISN'T FAIR.

Best place to die a damn Hospital! I hate to be put out!
Fear of not waking up! Threatened the whole operating room, if I dont wake up, I will haunt you for the rest of your Fu(*^%$##@!! Lives!
They thought I was kidding ! BS! Serious as Hell! Had 3 butt octomys in 5 days, watched the last 2 on the TV Screen!
It is tuff, in one time for acute pancreatitis ( 3 ) and my roomie was taking chemo! It was killing him! He told me they said he would die if he quit, 1 month to live! Heck, he lived 6 more months! He was 78.
If the man upstairs pulls the lever of life, it does not matter, you are going!
They always say the good die young, hell if that is the case, I will live to be 100+. Never figured I would live past 32, living proof, I am still here!
Hang in Sweety, a lose of a loved one is very hard!
No, it is not fair! But is better off now!
Hell is on Earth not in the bowles of Earth!

Carnation, my thoughts and prayers go out to you.
The Alpha Gams at the State Univ of West Georgia lost their College Advisor (sorry don't recall the exact term) when he was tragically killed in an traffic accident. Only a couple of weeks before, they were talking about what a great guy he was.

Carnation,
I am so sorry for sudden loss of your coworker. The same thing happened to my eighth grade history teacher. He battled and survived advanced stage throat cancer but died only a couple of months ago while in the hospital for a very mild case of pnuemonia. It was such a shock to all as I sure it is for you. My prayer go out to you and your coworker's family.

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your colleague. It's hard to understand why things happen and to such good people. Sudden deaths are the hardest too I think because we aren't prepared mentally and caught completely off gaurd.

Carnation, I'm so sorry. I lost my uncle to leukemia, so I definitely know what you're going through. A thought just popped into my head: I'm glad your friend passed on peacefully without having to go through numerous, painful, emotionally-wrenching treatments. Leukemia is such a horrible disease, and having to see a loved one go through numerous treatments -- without much success -- is extremely painful.
I just said a prayer that the Lord may be with you, your coworker's friends, and her family. I know that she is in a better place right now, smiling because she no longer has any disease!
May God take care of her family and friends during this painful time.
Take care carnation!!

Thank you all for your support. We buried Dr. Hall yesterday, just as she would have liked...the Chorale sang, her wonderful poetry was read, and one of the departmental professors gave an incredible eulogy. He had us all laughing when he compared her to Julia Sugarbaker of "Designing Women"--right on the money there--and in tears when he talked about how she set our bearings for us, how she always seemed to know what to do next.
We'll miss the tall, angular Southern belle with the big dimple. See you in Heaven, Dr. Hall.
