News Clippings...

I thought I'd start a thread where we could share positive stories about Sigma Nu's around the country that we've found in the media.

University of Mississippi:

The Epsilon Xi chapter of Sigma Nu is on top. On February 3, 2002, Epsilon Xi initiated a record 58. The new initiates took top honors during the fall 2001 semester accumulating an overall GPA of 2.82 which ranked #1 out of all the other pledge classes. Brother Drew Snyder was recently elected Student Body President. He is the first Greek president to hold office since brother Calvin Thigpen held the top office some four years ago. Calvin, a Rhodes Scholar, is a recent graduate of the University of Mississippi Medical School--we wish him the best in the future! Ten outstanding students were recently selected to the prestigious Ole Miss hall of fame -- five women and five men. Of the five men, two are fraternity members and both Louis Hengen of Biloxi, MS and Jonathan Werne of Jackson, MS are snakes! Eight brothers were named who's who, and brother Brent Fletcher was recently elected vice president of the Senior class. Eli Manning, the Sigma Nu quarterback recently won the Verizon Academic All-American Award.

During the 2001-2002 school year, Sigma Nu was one of the only two fraternities to achieve the university status of a five-star fraternity ranking; during that same year Sigma Nu also hosted Charity Bowl XIII. Charity Bowl, which came about in response to Chucky Mullins tragic football accident, has become one of the largest Greek philanthropies in the United States raising nearly $660,000 in the last thirteen years to benefit paraplegics. Charity Bowl 2002 put Sigma Nu vs Sigma Chi in football match-up referee by five of the NFL's finest officials. This years Bowl benefited the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation. The event attracted a great deal of regional and national attention. Remarked 2002 Charity Bowl guest of honor Christopher Reeve, "...[it's impressive] for a fraternity to go to this kind of effort to keep Chucky's name going...I believe he would be proud." Because of these reasons, Sigma Nu was the only fraternity to receive the Chancellor's Cup accolade for Greek excellence during the 2000-2001 school year.
