Another Feud: Chris Vs. Chris- You be the judge...
CHRIS VS. CHRIS: Comedians fighting over where the black prez idea began.
Chris Tucker
(May. 21, 2002) *People in the industry swear they're the best friends in the world, but when it comes to success, all is fair. Take, for example, comedians Chris Tucker and Chris Rock.
The duo is reportedly bickering about the origin of a movie about a black president. Tucker has been talking about the project, “Mr. President,” since 1999. But, as we reported in yesterday's EUR, Rock is about to begin shooting his own black prez film, titled “Head of State.”
Reportedly relations between Rock & Tucker have been strained since this year's Oscars. Reports say the two funny guys have supposedly passed on events where the other would be.
However, Leslie Sloan, Rock's publicist, says the two aren't beefing and goes on to say the idea of a black prez is not exactly an exclusive idea.
"The studios have been trying for years to get guys like Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy to play a black president. Chris Tucker's idea is not original."

I'm in favor of a Christ Tucker movie about a Black president. I enjoy his humor greatly...and when he talks about President Clinton...the hilarity of it will make you fall out of your chair!
I like Chris Rock's comedy as well...but I love Chris Tucker's comedy. Chris Tucker is cute and he's FUNNY...and I know that it will come off good (and not some Pooty Tang mess ).
And you know this MAN!

I'm sorry but chris rock is just drier than a bottle of gin.
and his movie would not be ALL THAT FUNNY. I have to give it to chris tucker on this one.
Chris Rock just seems to try to play by HOLLYWOODS rules to me.
He reminds me of a BLACK JEFFERY GODFREE (sp) He just isn't all that funny to me, except for some things.
Now Chris tucker..., he WOULD make the white house black.

Just Passing Through...
I agree with the person who previously asked why a movie about a black president had to be a comedy. There are plenty of black actors who would make wonderful presidents Samuel L Jackson, Denzel, Mario Van Peebles, Morgan Freeman, etc.
Of the two Chris' I certainly would not pick Chris Rock. My personal opinion is not favorable under any circumstances to Rock. However, Chris Tucker is more sensitive to the media and has leadership capabilities for the role of a black president. It would be interesting to see him play a serious role.

I think Chris Rock is funny at times, but sometimes he tries too hard to be funny and uses the same jokes (Liek what i was told about "Pooty Tang"). Chris Tucker is my boy! He's naturally funny, no matter what he's doing. But I agree with prior comments, that they shouldn't be fueding over who thought up the idea for such and such movie, esp. if it isn't copywritten (not to mention I could have thought of that idea)...

Actually, Morgan Freeman played the president of the US in Deep Impact with Tea Leoni. Granted, it was more of a supporting role, but he did a hell of a job and I was glad to see that they cast him as the president in a mainstream movie.
Anyway, back to Chris & Chris, I think Tucker is definitely more funny than Rock. It seems to me that Chris Rock was funnier before he gained crossover success while Chris Tucker has remained just as funny as he always was.

This is sorta reminiscence of the Janet Jackson/Whitney Houston, both want to make movies about Dorthy Dandridge and low and behold, Halle Berry comes out of nowhere and makes a movie.
Chris, Chris, pay attention...Bill Belamy would make a fine prez!

Chris Rock's movies are usually wack! His comedy is funny but he just can't act.

In case y'all forgot
Morgan Freeman played the President of the United States in a serious role in DEEP IMPACT (I might have the movie title wrong.. but it's the movie where an Asteroid crashes into the Atlantic and causes a Mega Tsunami that takes out most of the East Coast)..

Did anyone catch Chris Rock this morning on Good Morning America? He was talking about his new movie, Bad Company, but also mentioned that he will be making a movie about an African-American running for president. (Let me digress for a moment: Why did I feel that it was too early in the morning to see or listen to Chris Rock?
Also, in the latest issue of Savoy Magazine, Chris Tucker mentioned that he is making a movie about a Black president...but his is already in office. Chris Tucker has been chatting with Bill Clinton as well as several noted actors (Denzel, etc.) to prepare for this role.
So I suppose both of them will be making a movie.

Thank you, I had forgotten and I am actually quite glad you remineded me. I was all in a huff and shaking my head at the negative images we give to black children...and look! there is a movie where they can see one of their own SERIOUSLY in an esteemed position.
thanks!

I also wanted to point out that both Chris Tucker and Chris Rock are comedians, so should we expect them to put out movies that are anything but comedies? Now, if the powers that be were trying to cast Denzel or Laurence or Morgan (or some other "serious" black actor) in some buffoonish role, I'd have a problem. But in all acutality, I don't want to see either Chris attempt to perform a serious, dramatic role. They're comedians ... that's what they do.

I agree, I believe Swamp Thang made the post informing me of Deep Impact because I raised the question earlier as to why a movie with a black president had to be a comedy. I was not asking why Chris or Chris was doing anything, or who of them was better. I was asking WHY ONLY COMEDIANS WERE CONSIDERED. WHY ARE COMEDIES ON THIS SUBJECT SO MUCH MORE PREVELENT THAN DRAMAS WITH SERIOUS, REAL AND BELIEVEABLE STORY LINES? Why wasn't Denzel, Laurence, Morgan (or some other "serious" black actor) offered such a roll...and Swamp Thang politely remined me Morgan, at least, was.
But as an afterthought let me add, I agree with you in general. But, IMHO, the fact that they are comedians does not cause me to excuse their often-times perpetuation of stereotypes as "what they do". I will not be seing Undercover Brotha even though it is a comedy and "what Eddie Griffin does". I don't watch Martin. Yes, they are comedies, but there is a MAJOR DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SOMEONE LAUGHING AT YOU, AS OPPOSED TO WITH YOU. I truly believe mainstream America is not laughing WITH us when they watch Undercover Brotha, Martin, etc...
just my .08 cents
