The B
I was just wondering if other chapters around the country did not allow their pledges to wear the Greek letter Beta, unless it is spelled out, until they are active. Let me know

The Beta
This was a myth when I was a pledge...we were not allowed to wear any letters or beta, basically could only wear the words "Pi Phi" and no greek letters until after initiation. This is NOT a national policy at all -- pledges can wear letters and beta from the get go.

No one ever said anything about "beta". We just couldn't wear the Greek letters pi, beta, and phi--or the crest either--until after initiation.

We were allowed to wear Pi Phi or Pi Beta Phi spelled out, like carnation said no greek letters or crest until after initiation.
Does anyone remember ever seeing girls in "The Arrow" wearing Pi Phi in greek letters with Beta written out in between or just the Pi Phi letters? It seems that I have heard or seen some chapters PNMs wearing the Pi Phi letters or with beta written out.
On another note... PiPhiERDoc welcome to Greek Chat!!!!

We're not allowed to wear any greek letters or crests until initiation. I feel like I read somewhere that we are the only chapter nationally that adheres to the rule of "no letters until initiation." I have never heard of anyone in a west coast chapter who was allowed to wear letters before initiation.
And welcome PiPhiERDoc!

Thanks for the welcome!
Even though it isn't a policy and we have told our chapter that...they still don't let the pledges wear beta, lettered or spelled out
I have to say, it did make initiation pretty special, when I FINALLY got to wear letters and everyone on our campus knew that it meant that we were finally initiates.

As a current pledge, we can wear "pi phi" or "pi beta phi" spelled out, but no greek letters until initiation.

We were told we could wear "Pi Phi" "Pi Beta Phi" both spelled out, Pi Phi in greek letters (we got these really cute t-shirts that say I love Pi Phi...like I love NY), or the letters really small (like on a party shirt). We are not allowed to wear letters until we are fully initiated.

We give our pledges pins with the beta letter on them...but besides that they are not allowed to wear their letters unless they are spelled out.

At MI Alpha we don't allow our pledges to wear the greek letters Pi, Beta and Phi until they are initiated. They can, however, wear Pi Phi or Pi Beta Phi if it is spelled out. It so exciting on Initiation night when you can finally wear your letters!
