Question What should I run for?

Next week I believe we have to decide if we want to run for an office, and if so, which one. The new member educator said we can run for as many as we want to maximize our chances. The offices in which I'm interested include:

Music Chair
Social Chair
Alumni Chair
Panhellenic Alternate Delegate (we can't run for the regular one till next year)

There are others but I can't think of them right now. If you have held any of the above offices or similar ones in your sorority/fraternity, what all did you do, and what was the level of stress and time-consumption?

Social chair in my chapter was always totally stressful and it usually went to a junior or a senior because they knew the ins and outs a lot better.
Alumni chair is pretty cool. In my chapter that person's job was to keep track of alumni, send out newsletters every 3 mos., send holiday cards out, and set up activities for homecoming.

Hey sister -

It's great that you are thinking about running for an office!

Of all the positions you listed, Social Chair is the most stressful and my opinion is that you should wait a year or two before tackling such a huge position.

Have you reviewed the officer descriptions in our Guide to Chapter Officers? That will help you learn more about each position. Your President should have a copy of the guide.

Alternate Panhellenic is fun - you would interact with other alternates on Panhell and be involved in the process by which all groups on campus are governed. I served as Panhellenic VP and President during college and Alumnae Panhellenic VP and President (now). If Panhellenic really interests you, this is a great opportunity to get your feet wet.

Alumnae Liaison is fun - you would work with the alumnae chapter in keeping them up to date on chapter activities, planning events with them (maybe one a semester) and making sure the alumnae and collegians keep in touch with each other. You could also work to set up an alumnae buddy program (like pen pals).

Music Chair - great if you have a musical background. You would work with the chapter, especially during Recruitment or other music-oriented activities.

ZLAM,
Barbara

If you are concerened about your grades, I would suggest you not run for anything. Especially social chair.

But if you decide you do, and if you get better grades than you think you will, then go for it and Good Luck with elections.

Thanks everyone. Yeah the one I'm most likely thinking of doing is Music, because I really really want to plan All-Sing. I took two years of piano lessons, four years of flute lessons, six years of choir, two years of private voice lessons, lots of dance lessons (too many to name, although I still think I suck at dancing LOL), etc.

I was first chair flute/piccolo in my Jr.High marching band for two years in a row (out of 50 other flutes!) I was also in Wind Ensemble, and I had various solos on flute, piccolo, and voice. For four years in a row, I received Superior ratings at the Solo and Ensemble Festivals. In 9th grade, I recieved the SJHS Band Director's Award for excellence in musicianship, and I taught private flute lessons to the younger kids in band to help them with their tests.

I have been in two musicals: Annie, and Once Upon a Mattress. I enjoyed it thouroughly! I also have watched many musicals live as well as on video and TV, and I already have an awesome idea for what we should do for All-Sing (even have the costume, props, and set ideas figured out). Tee-hee.

Sounds like Music chair is probably a good position for you! Good luck with it all!
