One of my friends applied to work at MAC and from what she told me, you have to have some sort of experience more than doing makeup on friends/relatives. Usually, if you've worked in the same dept. store you can get promoted and keep changing to the more desirable counters. My friend has a considerable amount of experience and a portfolio and she was told that she may be able to do some freelance stuff for them, she wasn't even offered a job! I would recommend getting a job at a smaller counter first in a store that sells MAC and work your way up. It sounds like it would take a long time, but unless you are professionally trained you may have a difficult time being hired! Hope this helps-good luck!
