Rush at the University of Central Oklahoma is "messed up" (to put it lightly) at least for fraternities. Prospectives go through Rush with a "yellow card" and must obtain the stamp of every fraternity house on campus. Most houses require that you listen to their speal or something to get their stamp. After the prospectee fills out the card they can choose the house they want to sign and then go sign a bid card.
That's how it's SUPPOSED to work. Some houses will sign you before you've filled out your card and then group you up with lots of other guys that go house to house together with clear instructions not to listen to anyone
I believe IFC is looking at overhauling this system though...

OKsoonergirl - Our rush is pretty similar to yours here at OSU. I think ours may be a little less cutthroat, but that's all. We also have 11-8-5-3 party days. I know your PNMs only attend 2 prefs-ours attend 3. I was so bummed that State Day got cancelled due to the weather. I talked to the rush chair about maybe doing a workshop together.
By the way, I'll be kind-of a sooner next year. I'm going to law school at OU.

MIT has a pretty strange setup for sorority rush. There are 5 sororities on campus and here's what we do:
Round 1: The Rho Chi's take their rushee groups to each sorority's rush room for 10 minutes per sorority. Then, sororities hold open houses, and rushees choose which houses to go back to and for how long.
Round 2: Sororities make their first round of cuts. Rushees pick up their invites and choose up to 4 sororities to go to for "informal rush". During informal, a rushee goes to a particular sorority and signs out for x hours (x is limited depending on how many sororities the rushee has kept). This is the only stage of rush that is held outside student center rush rooms. Sororities with houses generally take rushees to the house; sororities without houses take rushees out for coffee, ice cream, etc. Rushees must pay their own way.
Round 2a: theme parties. Rushees can go back to up to 3 sororities... the sororities don't cut before this round.
Round 3 is pref. This is the round where sororities cut heavily. Rushees can go back to up to 2 sororities.
Next day is bid day.
Yes, our rush was really weird. Oh well

Fraternity rush is pretty open at Boston U.
We have rules as far as drinking and dirty rushing, but besides that, it's a pretty open process. There is an IFC event at the beginning where all of the chapters introduce themselves, do a Powerpoint presentation, and answer questions. Then, each fraternity has their own events over the next couple of weeks, usually around 5, culminating in an interview type event, with bids given out the next day.
For example, some of our events include pizza at Uno's, pool, playing basketball, and going to a Comedy club downtown.
Sorority rush is a whole other story though - I'm not sure of all the rules of how it works.

Recruitment week is very stressful, but quite amazing! One thing that I think makes our campus different is how close our Rho Chis get before the Recruitment process. When I was a Rho Chi last year, we had tons of meetings over the summer plus retreats and fundraisers. We really exemplified Greek Unity because we truly were that close.
As for my chapter, I think PNMs like us because we are down to earth and fun. A lot of the other chapters refer to us as "Switzerland" because we are kind of neutral and we get along with almost everyone.

At UMass, there're no rules about anything for fraternities. There's no coordinated rush: everyone just throws huge parties, and then pledges whoever wants to pledge. It's actually not a very good system: most rush classes are full of immature party animals, who end getting their houses in trouble.

Our recruitment is different than a lot of other schools b/c 1. it's sooo small. 4 sororities, about 40 girls went through this year, and we have 4-4-3-2 rounds. 2. Recruitment is extremely laid back here. Chapters probably spend about 500 dollars tops. We don't buy coordinated outfits or anything like that. Women come through recruitment wearing sweats and raggety t-shirts (sports practices often interfere).
The guys match bids in a way that reminds me of the NFL draft. Everyone is screaming and going crazy. I have (obviously) never been, but the guys get to send a current chapter member to it. My boyfriend said it's nuts!
The women usually have a chapter advisor and an alum there to represent. Things get nuts, but in a much more snippy way.
