Thumbs down Jennifer Lopez on Oprah

Did anyone see Jennifer Lopez, aka JLo, on Oprah this past Friday?

The girl cannot sing! She sang a song off of her new album, I forgot the name of the song, but the singing was not good. The song, it's melody and lyrics, were great. Jennifer Lopez singing the song, not so great. The song was a slow song, requiring her to carry a tune. She can carry a tune, just not in pitch. Hurts my ears to hear her carry an out-of-pitch tune. Having been in band for 9 years, I can hear things like that. Sounds like finger nails across a chalkboard.

Her upbeat songs don't require her to carry a tune, so unless you are really listening, you can't really tell that the girl can't sing!

Thoughts, anyone else?

There may already be a thread similar in nature, but my computer has been acting up, so I could not do a search.

She seems to be following the acts of other pop singers out there who are performers but definitely not talented artists. Britney Spears is another example. I have done years of vocal training so I know whether or not someone has a good voice. Britney's voice=BAD. Jennifer Lopez is the same. She is a great performer but nothing else. But, I will give them credit for their dancing. They can definitely bust a move.

I've noticed that anymore it's about the complete package (looks, dancing, body and then voice). I mean, I don't want to sound cruel but almost anyone could be a singer if they knew how to dance and had the right "look" anymore.
I mean, really, think back on Debbie Gibson, Madanna, Tiffany, Janet Jackson, Paula Abdul...they could sing! Like actually SING!
Now it's like all about sex appeal. I like their songs and the beat and all, but I agree...they don't have anything spectacualr about their singing voices (not saying the above did but you get my point).
Oh well. Interested to hear what everyone else thinks!

Yeah, apparently you don't need to sing well in order to be a singer. Pretty amazing what the power of MTV has done to the music industry.

You know, I saw JLo on Oprah also. When she came on to sing her new song, I thought the same thing, "Aw....she doesn't sound very good does she?" I too thought that a slow song may not have been a good choice to sing live. I feel bad for her. In all, she seems to be a good entertainer as far as dance, looks etc.

Hey, I know this is so "three years ago" and everything, but this topic reminded me of the Spice Girls. I know a lot of people said that they were crap. One guy I know, who has done a lot of vocal training (he taught others), said that they weren't given enough credit. Now, I guess that one girl couldn't sing so well, but the others could. He said that people were more mad that they were huge, outlandish pop stars and that people unfairly picked on their singing abilities because of it.

I can't sing to save my life so I can't *really* comment on any of it!

......Kelly

Spice Girls are like pornography. Lots of people denies having them, but they seem to be making a lot of money.

Well for you music-knowledgable people...

I'm more of a Phish fan than a Brittney Spears fan, but here's a question...Is Shakira's voice good according to your standards. Like I said, I know nothing of the true measure of good or bad...but I think her voice is phenominal...Her lyrics are maybe lacking somewhat but the way she sings is mesmeric. Am I a fool, or is she truly talented?

I saw the J-Lo thing on Oprah too and I thought I was the only one who thought she couldn't sing. Have yall seen that new video she did with Nas? What in the world did she have on? She really doesn't impress me. She was sooo fake on Oprah.

I like shakira. Her spanish language albums were way better tho. Download the following songs; Estoy Aqui and Ciega Sordomunda. Blows that current stuff outta the water.

Pink is the best and most real out of the "pop" stars, IMO.

I've always thought J.Lo couldn't carry a tune. Seeing her on Oprah just proved my point. It was so painful hearing her try to sing. I think alot of people don't notice her lack of singing ability because she usually does up-tempo songs--where the beats drown out her voice. And then she adds a rapper like Ja Rule or Nas so she doesn't have to sing for half of the song. I can't stand how she is praised by the media for being a triple threat (singer, actor, dancer) when she doesn't have any actual talent to back it up. And, is it just me or does "Enough" look like a bad rip-off of "Sleeping with the Enemy"? Hearing Oprah gush about it and J.Ho made me wanna puke.

You may disagree with me, but I think she is a great actor though. I've not seen many movies of hers, but I thought she was brilliant in "The Wedding Planner"

Jennifer Lopez is a very talented women. She was in the broadway show cats and did a wonderful job because she went for a no name part to a lead role in cats. She worked very hard to get where she is at now. Did anyone every think she make have been having an off day? I'm sure there are lots of singers who have off days. I enjoy her music and her acting. I am a big fan of hers for many reasons.
