New Chapters
Okay, this is a curiousity thing right now. But i'm wondering what steps someone would have to take to start a sorority at a school that has none??
And anyone that wants to rant on what they give to a school or people in them. I'd love to hear it. I've been contemplating what it would take to start one here, and i figured this was as good a place as any to get some info.

Thanks so much. I suppose I should have thought of that first. It's paper time, my brain is fried. Sorry. :-)

Xaverian,
Do you want to start a local or national sorority?
Have you checked the school's handbook to make sure sororities aren't prohibited? If they are allowed, some schools allow nationals but not locals, and vice versa.

Good luck on your search for info! I've joined a sorority this semester that is just starting out and I think that it is completely worth it, especially if it isn't offered by you to begin with. In fact, we're getting inducted as a colony on Dec. 10th, I'm so excited! But if your main concern is about how to go about setting the foundation, many sorority websites have contact information to talk to someone about starting a chapter at your school. I know that Kappa Beta Gamma (the one that we are a part of) is looking to expand and is super excited about helping to start a chapter, especially since we are a small national sorority to begin with. Definately find out what kind of regulations your school has on starting a greek organization and the processes deturmined by your school first though if you are serious about starting one. Best of luck to you!

X I think it is great that you want to start an organization at your non Greek School!
Well, first you need a group of ladys the larger the better! Next once you are a viable organization, you need to get recognized by the school.
Once that far, you can petition a National Soroity, or more than one and have them send someone to talk to you. This gives both partys a chance to check each other over to see if there is a fit between you!
All i can say i have been there and it is a tuff road to plow but the rewards are well worth it in the long run/ the very bestest of luck!!!!!!

You can also go to your Student Activities Office and ask THEM to petition NPC to bring a national sorority onto campus. My sorority is doing this at a university in Texas in the Spring, and it should be interesting. We will be the first NPC sorority on their campus.

The fastest groups to get charters from national organizations are those who are pre-existing smaller groups that want to merge with the national one and take on their name.
You may want to just start your own sorority and then find a national organization that fits who you are.
