What Ever Happen To Freedom Of Speech On A Message Board?

Ok....
I now I usually hold me tongue, except when something is just plan retarded or isnt comman sense (pet peeves, yes, however I CANT TAKE IT ANY LONGER! So this is my little commentary and NO, its not directed towards anyone in general b/c even though I've been on here a short time I notice the same things happening over and over.

Does anyone else notice that its "do as I say, not as I do" around here?

Does anyone also notice that generally and I'd say about 80% of the time people are JOKING around on this board. They are having simple fun. I realize that not everyone has a since of humor, but come on.

Does anyone also notice that when people dont agree with certain opinions all hell breaks loose and suddenly there's a thread about 10 miles long with people retorting back, when they should follow their own advice and ignore whatever.

There are wacks, loons and goones everywhere,I should know. I live in a town that has a ton.....get use to it

Also something need to make its mind up. Either a person can represent an entire org, or they can't. We have people saying that one girl acting slutty in your house, doesnt represent the whole house. Then you have people saying no matter what you think you or one person does represent your entire org? Personally I love my org to DEATH, but I dont represent my entire org., I try to uphold its deals the best way that I can. In other words if we are going to say you do represent the org, then so does the slut, which makes your org a slut. Get what Im saying?

IF someone states their OPINION about an chapter it doesn reflect the whole org. It reflects the experience they have had wiht that org wherever they are, and if someone is willingly to belive that all 123 chapters is like that, then let that person not have any common sense, most of us do.

Its on the internet... its public use... its free. Now of course you are going to recieve post that repeat the same thing over again and that are kind of tastless at times. But they have the right to say whatever they want. If you cant take the heat, get out the kitchen...IGNORE IT. Dont stress over petty stuff.

This is not a dictatorship and not just some peoples message board, ITS EVERYONES!

Now if you dont like what I have to say, thats completely fine, you are entitled. But i worte this because I viewed 2 post today that didnt sit well with me, and I hope this doesnt offend anyone, but makes them think.

I agree.. everyone has their own minds, their own thoughts, instead of putting them down maybe we should take more time to try to see things in another light, you still might not agree, which is fine, but everyone is entitled to their own voice opinions and thoughts, we are all INDIVIDUALS..

You espouse freedom of speech and think everybody should get to post their thoughts..don't you realize that you're wanting to deny some people the right to post their thoughts? If freedom of speech is to be truly practiced on this board and I think someone deserves a "sharp retort", shall we say, then it's my right to post that. Especially if some fool starts a thread like "Is It True That Sorority Girls All Sleep Around?" or "Secrets of ABC".

This topic has been beaten to death by the same people again and again on other threads and I'm sick to death of it. You say what you want to, fine, but extend me the same courtesy.

Damn! I LUV YA! You must be as insane as I am! I do many silly things to liven it up but heck lets not get so serious! We as Greeks learn more and do more because of the Organizations we have Pledge our lives to be part of! We have people that we can talk to and relate with! This is actually the same ON GC!

I dont think that I denied anyone the rght to speak. I NEVER said it wasnt right for a person to retaliate back, Ive done it. Actually this message has done it. My point was this... it kind of ironic that ABC feels that they can give a smart remark on a comment that DEF made, but when XYZ backs up DEF and makes a comment about ABC's remark, ABC cant handle it.

OK, i guess I should have put it this way... if you cant take it then dont dish it. Might be the same thing. But thank you for your reply

I think I got what your saying. Maybe I didnt but heres what I think. *LOL* I think what you are trying to say is that often times people post and tend to take things personally. Or one of the two extremes. Granted I'm all for freedom of speech and everyone has a right to their own opinion. I think a good example is when we had those posts way back of what do you think of XYZ Fraternity/Sorority and someone would post not something postive and there would be some backlash from it. I guess what your trying to say UMGirl is just think before you post. I think thats a good rule. My advice would be to try to see things from more than one perspective. Sort of like when someone reads your fortune or a tara reading if anyones had one. If that makes sense. I think the biggest one of all though is discretion. I would imagine we all learned this when were new members in the greek community.

hee hee i jumped in on the Sigma Ci TKE thing to have fun, everyone was backing up TKE (whihc I have no problem with so I thought Id be devils advocate. It was fun!

The thing about representing sororities, dont ask me what it means either. I had been up all night study for my last exam as an undergrad ever (WOOHOO! and i just took it) and was a lil out of it
