GCSU Recruitment

Did anyone else's daughter go greek at Georgia College this fall? Seems as though they had good recruitment!

I'd like to ask a question of ladies who are much smarter than I a question.

Assuming that all goes well this year I'd like to help out with recruitment next fall - is that something I could help with? I'm quite crafty and would like to at least offer my skills.

Is that frowned upon or welcomed? My daughter did not pledge my sorority (she was cut in the third round) but is very happy where she landed -would that make me unwelcomed?

I don't have an answer to your question but I'm impressed that you are so supportive of your daughter's new affiliation even though it's not your own group. You and your daughter are in for a great new member period with that kind of attitude!

Even if the chapter doesn't have a history of using chapter moms to support the girls during recruitment prep I'm sure anything you do would be appreciated.

I love your enthusiasm to embrace your daughter's chapter!

Me three! In addition, I encourage you to be actively involved with your own alumnae group, so that you can support them as well. Actives welcome alumnae support (at least in my experience). Little snacks throughout the year, notes, whatever - not just at recruitment!

I got involved with the Panhellenic group here in AZ and I can honestly say that I enjoy my interactions with all my Panhellenic sisters. We have a lot of fun.

I agree-most chapters welcome assistance, however, assistance from anyone other than alumnae may be limited. If there is a need to keep tables replenished with filled cups of water, or picking up a huge take out order so the chapter can eat during lunch or dinner breaks, or if there is a costume that needs making, then a mom could certainly assist. I would suggest that you mention it to your daughter toward the end of spring semester to see how she feels about it, and then with her go ahead, contact one of the chapter advisors.

And that way, you won't be a stranger popping up offering to help at next year's recruitment. You'll be that fabulous mom who brought snacks or helped with Greek Sing rehearsals or made table arrangements for parents weekend, etc, all throughout the year.

Oh I will definitely help with both!

Thank you all so much for your nice words. As a parent, I found recruitment very difficult (yes, I know it's really not about me but I still found it difficult!) and had some long evenings between rounds 2 and pref - which is how I found the site. After being 'out of the loop' for so long it was nice to have knowledgable people to gain insight from.

I'm trying to take the lead from my independent, yet still very attached, daughter and not do my normal thing which is to 'jump right in' and get involved.

I would be lying if I said that I wasn't a little disppointed that my daughter was cut was my house. That said, she is very very different than the girls at this school so I knew going in that she wasn't a 'absolute' fit - but still, I was hoping. I do believe that they looked at her a second, and then a third time before they cut her so I think she got a fair shake but I would be lying if I didn't admit that I'm a little sad that those dreams I had for so long didn't happen.

That said, where she ended up is EXACTLY where she needed to be. It's a house that I would have been honored to be part of and was absolutely one of my top picks when I went through so many years ago.

I'll defintely wait until after she's formally initated and parents weekend happens before I offer and I'll defintely let her take the lead but I'll drop a lot of hints after Christmas!!

I have lived through both, my daughter "cutting" my house and another daughter being cut by my house. It is definitely more painful when the sorority that you love cuts your daughter! That said, both ended up where they should be, and I am very happy that they found their Greek home!

Wanted to follow up at the end of the year.

Well here we are at the end of Freshman year and I can say my daughter had the best year of her life. She has a wonderful big who is her absolute best friend. I am so very very proud of she opened herself up, built relationships, and embraced college life.

My daughter is eagerly waiting for fall recruitment and is so very happy about finding her little next year. We've bee gathering things together since Christmas in anticipation.

I am forever grateful to the sisters of Kappa Delta for being such a welcoming and inviting group of girls.

Oh FSUZETA I've grown up too. I've released the strings and let her fly. She knows if they need something I'm willing to help but she and her sisters are more than capable.

In other words......

They don't need no stodgy mamas. Lol

You sound far from stodgy! Don't be surprised if there is some phone call before rush starts inviting you to help-at least I hope so!
