GMAT Prep......any suggestions??

Sorors and Sisterfriends,

I am in the process of preparing for my graduate managment admissions test and I need some serious help!!! I am open to any and all suggestions that you may have for someone such as myself. I was an English major in college and had very few business courses. I am currently a sales rep for a chemical distributor and have always had a job in the business field, however I lack the common knowledge that most business majors have such as micro and macro econ, business stats, etc.
Can anyone help me? Is the GMAT as tough as it appears to be?

I'm currently enrolled in Kaplan’s Prep course. IMO, as an English major, I think you’re better off than I am with an Econ degree. I’m not sure if you’ve started studying or how much you know about the test. So here’s a few tidbits just in case…

The verbal tests your ability to reason and to decipher pertinent info … via short and long passages. Plus there’s a whole portion on grammar (which I suck at!). There are no “business” related questions… like micro/macro econ or accounting stuff. The math portion is based on a 9-10 grade level… algebra, geometry, and simple arithmetic. The essay section(2 different argument essays) is graded separately and not coded as part of the possible 800pts. From what I’ve heard, not all schools are interested in the essay score but it’s a toss up.

The worst part about this test… is that it’s only a CAT test now (computer aptitude test). Basically, depending on how you answer each question (getting it right or wrong) you will get either a harder or easier question next. Plus, you have 75 minutes to do all verbal… no separate sections. They can throw any question at you… sentence correction, reading comp passage.. or critical reasoning.. one after the other in any order. Same goes for the math section.

Not going to lie… it’s a rough test but I think with your english background you will have more than half the test on lock. Also, the key is learning the techniques and managing your time.

I think I will be okay when it comes to the grammer and stuh, however it is the math that I STRUGGLE with. I was reading some math questions last night and was like WTF???? So, I pray that I can at least handle the simple questions. I checked into the Kaplan prep class but it was TOOOO pricy. So, I am trying to be as disiplined as I can be and study a little every night.

I don't know if they have it for GMAT but we use the ACT/SAT Test Prep Software on CD-ROM for our students. They sale it at any computer/media store. Not too pricey and you can do it at your own pace. They even review certain skills with you.

I've heard that if you made anything below a "C" in any business class, you can't take the test. Has anyone ever heard this before?

you are not required to submit a transcript before signing up for the test. I do know that if you get a “C” in any class while in business school(in the programs that I’ve researched), you have to repeat that class and/or placed on academic probation. Below a "C", you run the risk of getting kicked out. Maybe this issue somehow got confused with the test itself.

If you go to the GMAT website at www.gmac.com , you can download sample version of the test or you can receive a CD w/ the sample test.

Um, the last time that I checked, your LS was a MATH MINOR!!! Girl, if you need some study weekends, let me know!! I still have a little of Witt's Math Workshop in me!
