Recent activities at the Kappa Sigma fraternity at Millikin University have raised concern among Millikin officials and have led to Millikin no longer recognizing the Kappa Sigma chapter as an official student organization.
Millikin officials from the offices of Student Life & Academic Development and Safety and Security were granted permission to enter the Kappa Sigma house on May 7. While being escorted through the house, officials viewed hard liquor and drug paraphernalia, which were voluntarily surrendered by the Kappa Sigma members.
According to the regulations outlined in the Millikin University Student Handbook prohibiting hard alcohol and drug related materials in approved University housing, the University can no longer recognize Kappa Sigma as an official student organization and the chapter may no longer exist at the University. The fraternity house will no longer be considered approved campus housing.
The offices of Student Life & Academic Development and Safety and Security are committed to ensuring the safety and well being of all Millikin University students. Violations of University policy like those found at the Kappa Sigma Fraternity will not be tolerated.
