Questions for Washington State Univ.
Hi there, I am new to greekchat and have some questions for anyone in a sorority at WSU.
first off:
I am a junior interested in going greek- is that even possible?
Would it be better to do informal in the spring or wait until Fall of 2015 (when i am a senior)?
What is going greek like? Benefits? Drawbacks?
Thank you so much!

Hello-
I am not currently in a sorority at WSU, and have not been for many years, but I am very familiar with the school and greek system. Both my husband and I were in chapters at Washington State, and are still die hard Coug fans.
As for your questions, jr. status, I recommend signing up for informal, waiting for sr. year would be rough, jr. year would be hard, but if you have good grades, involvement in outside activities and an open mind I would think you will be fine. I can not make promises though, just to clarify. Drawbacks in my opinion, are the fact that you are a junior and missed out on 2+ years of being in a sorority, but that is coming from someone who believes that the Greek system is amazing. Another drawback would be the time commitment. Joining any sorority at WSU is a great experience, and if you want the benefits you receive from being Greek, you have to know this all takes a lot of time. The chapters want to recruit women who will be active, positive members, not just women who show up to Monday night dinner and complain about being stuck at the house. The benefits are endless, scholarship support, lifelong friendship, participating in philanthropy, contributing to other philanthropies, and FUN. WSU is a great place to be greek, regardless of the chapter, they all offer amazing women of all different personality types. Getting into ANY of them is awesome, if you have an open mind. If you are serious about joining a chapter, contact Panhellenic, there may even be a few chapters that are participating in COB events! Best of luck, if you have any other feel free to message me, or continue posting in the thread.

Really like this forum. Plus I agree with everything wsucalsigmakapp has said. The is a lot of fun, and lasting friendships lasting years. What is most fun, is when there is a reunion and you see your old frat brothers and sisters after years of being apart. It is amazing how the years melt away and you are back in college. Good luck in your decision, I would go for it now. You never know what will be going on in a year.

Thank you guys so much! I know I am a little late to the party, but I used freshman year to focus on getting my grades up as I was not the best student in high school. Then my sophomore year I thought that it was too late to join a sorority because I had missed formal rush in the fall. I just recently learned about informal rush and have filled out a form for the chapters on campus to contact me if they are interested in me.
Is there anything I can do in the mean time to kind of get myself out there and associate a face with the form I filled out?
Thank you guys for taking the time to respond to my original post!

To make yourself stand out, hmm, my best suggestion would be that if you see a house advertising for a philanthropy, I know 5k runs are very big right now, grab a few of your friends and head out to support the philanthropy. While you are there introduce yourself to the people hosting the event. Clean up your social media, if you don't want your future employer to see it, don't have it posted. A lot of women forget about twitter, watch your language on twitter, the chapters will be checking you out on social media. Partying with a potential chapter is not the way to get invited to that chapters recruitment events. if you have the opportunity to get to know women in chapters, take it, but do it sober. If you have sorority women in your classes, try sitting next to close to them, the chance to chat or meet them may present itself, but if it doesn't, don't force it. My best advice is to be yourself, and remember that every chapter at Wazzu has a great sisterhood, a wonderful philanthropy, a strong scholarship program and has a lot of fun. And I believe the smallest chapter at WSU is approx. 130 women, that is a lot of women to get to know, you will get along and fit in with women of every chapter.
