Only thing I can share is that registration is up from last year (~ 1500 is what I was told). Pannhellenic has been diligent in informing pnms with low GPAs that their chances are seriously reduced. Other than that I won't be posting until after recruitment is finished next Sunday. Haven't seen any pnms come here to post stories.

Unfortunately, the sister of my daughter"s good friend was cut heavily after round 1. Her high school gpa is slightly below a 3.00 (although she attended a competitive private high school and has many other positives on her resume). Even her legacy chapter cut her after round 1 (is that ok to do?).

I think that the low gpa really hurt her. AZtheta, would you comment?

All sororities have different legacy policies. Some require a second look, others do not. The person that is a member of said sorority should check their legacy policy. The low GPA would likely mean a drop by the next party, so chock it up to not leading the girl on.
AZTheta will not be commenting in this thread until after recruitment concludes to avoid any recruitment violations.

I know nothing about AZ, specifically, but below a 3.0 is not great. Which is dumb, because a B-average shouldn't be terrible, but grade inflation at the high school level means there are probably tons of women coming in with MUCH higher GPA's.

I can't comment on membership selection and whether the GPA will continue to hurt her, but I will say that odds are good she meets the requirements of the chapters that invited her back, and there's nothing she can do to change it now except do her best to be confident and stick it out.

Happy to report an update to my earlier post about my daughter's friend's little sister....

After being cut very very heavily after round #1 , and bawling her eyes out, feeling like a loser, etc., I am thrilled to report that she quickly found new "favorites" from the four that she had left! She continued to carry her favorites for the remainder of the week and today is preffing two houses that she would be thrilled to receive a bid from!!

It is worth repeating that if you do not get invited back to your "favorite", then pick a new favorite!!! She did and she is HAPPY!!! It ended up being a really fun week for her!

I will report tomorrow what her letters are!!

I am thrilled to report that my daughter's friend's little sister is over the moon happy to be a new member of Alpha Chi Omega!!

After a rough start to the week due to heavy cuts, she pulled herself together emotionally, tuned out the unfortunate tent talk, and went on to have a wonderful recruitment week! Prefffed two houses that she loved! A happy ending indeed. Phew!
