Alpha Mu is BACK!!!
Here's the story guys. It's a long one so grab a beer and enjoy.
I was initiated in the Fall of 1999 so the details before that may be a bit hazy. Alpha Mu was shut down for several reasons in the early 1990's. Then the "International Fraternity" decided that it needed a chapter on the largest university in the nation. So in the Spring of 1996(? on the exact date), the colony at The University of Texas at Austin was rekindled. We started with something like 20 guys, and our numbers stayed there for the next few years. We ran into some problems along the way, as all of us know how that goes, and continued as a colony. In the summer of 2000, Brothers Bain, Stallings, Rushing (sorry if i'm missing anyone) went to the general assembly in Atlanta Georgia. They went with the knowledge that we had not met all the requirements, and there were three possible outcomes. 1) Shut down the colony. 2) Give an extra year to meet the standards. 3) Grant us our charter. After alot of worrying we recieved option 2. During that next year, we worked hard to accomplish all those goals. We met all of them except for men(2 short of the 40 req'd) and grades(.1 short of the all men's average). Brothers Bain, Forsberg(myself), Overton, Hutson, and Potter went up to Aimes Iowa for the leadership seminar. We now had 2 options, shut down or get our charter. With alot of help from our alumni and others especially Brothers Jim Ivey, Ed Miller, Bob Simpson, Bradford Morse, and company, we were granted our charter. We oficially held our chartering banquet on December 1, 2001. If there's anything else, feel free to drop me an e-mail.
