Unhappy Another Spring Break-related accident (BGSU students involved)

Has anyone heard about this? The article didn't mention if the girls were members of a sorority. Does anyone know?

My thoughts and prayers go out to the girls and their families and friends. How terribly tragic.

BGSU Campus Mourns Deaths Of 6 Students
Teenagers Die Returning From Spring Break

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- Bowling Green State University
students whose spring break ends Monday must deal with
a weekend tragedy.

Six students, all 19-year-old women who were friends,
were killed in the crash of their minivan Friday night
in Verona, Ky., near Cincinnati. They were returning
from Panama City, Fla.

The university president promised to help students who
are grieving. A memorial is planned later in the week.

Students returning to campus Sunday were teary-eyed
and upset over the deaths.

Classmate Alex Glantzis of Mentor, Ohio, spent time
with the women in Panama City. He said that they
didn't make much of their goodbyes because they
expected to see each other on campus.

The victims were driver Jessica Hedlund of Perrysburg,
Ohio, and passengers Andrea Bakker of Strongsville,
Ohio; Sara Jean McCarthy of Brook Park, Ohio;
Jacqueline Ahlers of Vandalia, Ohio; and Michelle
Saunders and Ryan Leigh Foss, both of Huron, Ohio.

I hadn't heard the news until I just read the above post. How sad. It seems that there are a lot more deaths/accidents this Spring Break than I can remember. Very Very Sad!

Unfortunately, this is nothing new. Back 30 years ago at Auburn as spring break was ending, we were shocked to hear of the deaths of 2 Greeks returning to campus--an AOII and a KA--and the serious injury of 2 more. As they were driving back from Panama City, a drunk crossed the center line and absolutely obliterated their car.

And anyone who has read "Heartbreak Hotel", a book written by and based on Auburn Greeks in the fifties, will remember the coming-home-from-spring-break accident in that one.

This really isnt anything new...but still it is just as devestating as it is every year...i know that many people drink and drive either on the way to their spring beak place or on the way back which has caused many accidents...I just hope that everyone is safe these next few weeks of Spring Break that everyone has and also durring the summer when people take trips. I hate hearing about people getting hurt or dying. please be safe guys.

Unhappy Girls in accident were members of a sorority

I found out this morning that at least two of the girls were members of a sorority. I'm not sure which GLO, though. If anyone finds out, please post the info here. I'd like to send the chapter a sympathy card.

Thanks!

Unhappy Another update

Two of the girls were Chi Omegas. From the news I just received, it appears that all of the girls were in sororities -- but only Chi Omega is known at the moment.

Unhappy

2 of the girls that were killed in the accident are Chi Omegas-- Jacquelyn Ahlers and Andrea Baker are listed on the Bowling Green State University web page as belong to Chi Omega Fraternity.
