Mariah Carey - Dropped by her label: Virgin

I did a search on Mariah Carey before posting this topic and didn't find anything about her, so here we go...

What do you all think about Mariah Carey? How do you feel about the outward image and appearance that she portrays. Do you think she's a talented artist?

I understand that she has already written ALL of her songs and for that I really do feel that she is very talented. Really, her voice is very beautiful. But why's she always 90% naked in her videos. In her latest video she's wearing those tiny pink shorts and when she turns around they're a thong. Sometimes I just don't understand why some very talented artists rely on dressing as trampy as possible to sell music.

Before she transformed into her little "sex kitten" look, I really liked her. I used to buy her CD's back in the day. Girlie can work a ballad.

Nevertheless, she holds the record of being one artist (up there with Elvis) with the most chart topping hits.

So, what are your thoughts?

I agree, Mariah has really shot off. I also agree with Monique somewhat but LMAO girl you must REALLY dislike her to post a new topic above a recent one and then post it THREE times, anyway. I have dabbled in the music industry myself and sex does sell. It is the culture of this world but some artist do keep to their principles. Look at Lil Miss Aliyah, at one time she was too shy to show her face now you See way more than her Face . I don't buy Mariah Carey anymore, either.

I just want to say that I like Mariah Carey dispite of the way she dresses. She's talented. I believe that she dresses like that because it is a fad,however, I wouldn't dress like that. But that is the thing nowadays. I feel that she is dressing that way to sell sex to men, but really women are her major audience. So, I am pretty sure that women feel disgusted when they are trying to enjoy an artists song/video, and the viewer has to look in the artists behind. That is really disgusting, I know I don't want to look into a woman's behind. That really burns me up, when these artists are inconsiderate of their viewers. But Mariah I love her songs.

My roommate and I were just discussing this the other day.

She wasn't always this way, maybe being aroung P-Diddy and the "Bad Boys" did something to her. She doesn't have to get naked in her videos. She is very talented, however, maybe this is something she wants to do, like the stripper in her is coming out.

I also agree that the majority of HER listener and CD buyers, are women, however videos are made to reach a wider audience. It's aired on MTV and BET, so, those channels get more viewers (male) to watch their stations.

I like Mariah but I have noticed that with each album more and more clothes come off. Yeah sex sells but you're supposed to pimp other people not yourself. Her last album she had on less than she began with but she was still tasteful. Now she is just letting it all hang out.

I've been a big MC fan since her debut album but I stopped buying her records after Butterfly. Rainbow is the only album of hers that I don't own. I don't even know if I'll buy Glitter when it drops. Her songs are not that great anymore and she is more concerned with seeing how many rappers she can get to make guest appearances on her albums than putting out quality music. She may have more freedom now but I think Tommy Mottola knew what he was doing to a certain extent even if she did write the majority of her songs. People look at her as more of a Celine Dion type of artis rather than a J-Lo so there is no need to get naked. And if she wants to take her clothes off she needs to work with a personal trainer first!!!

I too am a big Mariah fan. I own all of her CDs. I do agree that her music isn't what it used to be, but it's not that bad. I really enjoy her voice and while some of her latest stuff isn't like her older music, I still listen to it to see if I'll like it after a few listens. I do this w/ any artist though.
Anyway, yeah she is taking off more and more clothes. I definitely agree that she doesn't need to do that. I do try to ignore that b/c it's the music that's important, not what she wears. I feel that when these women dress like this, it's all for show. In fact, if anyone reads Mademoiselle, they have an article in there called "The Side That They Don't See". It's about a few female celebrities who are interested in things that their fans wouldn't even think they were. And in that article is none other than Lil Kim w/out the blonde hair, make-up, etc etc and she's rock climbing! Ya'll, I had to take a triple take b/c I didn't even recognize her at all. You actually see her natural brown hair (however, I think she still has the contacts in...I couldn't really tell from the pic) But it's a trip! So while Mariah and all these others continue to be in these videos half-naked, just realize it's all for show. It's not a very good show, but it's for those purposes. I really don't think any of them are acting the way they are dressing. And even if they are, well, that ain't my business. Shoo, we are all human and we all have done our fair share of whateva! Maybe not to that extent, but ya know what I mean Just my 4 cents

Remember this is my opinion...

I can not stand Mariah Carey...I liked a few of her songs and even will listen to them but she makes me sick. I am not fond of people who are conveniently black. NO I am not saying she should not claim whateva else she is but do so all the time not just when you want to sell a record to a certain community. She seems so sleazy to me. I just have never gotten great vibes about her. She makes my skin and flesh crawl and my blood boil. Never have I disliked anyone so much. I can't even quite put my finger on it. That's enough about her and before any body comments about my dislike for this woman remember this is just my opinion.

She needs to do some serious soul searching because to me the woman seems lost. I love her voice and I still listen to "Always Be My Baby" and "Vision Of Love." But, Maria appears as if she is shallow and trying to be something she is not. Her music would be respected more(in my eyes anyway) if she displayed growth and maturity on her most recent CD .

By the way, Cameo's "Candy" should not have been touched.

Like I said, I don't know what it is but something bout that girl just ain't right. Be very clear...the song she did with Bone Thugs & Harmony "Breakdown" was my best breakup song (I can't explain that) but she just seems so cheap and thats my $0.13

I can't believe with news of Mariah Careys "nervous breakdown" that no one here has brought it up. She seems to be very talented but apparently she is not happy, in fact there rumors of an attempted suicide.
What are your thoughts on this issue?

Did anyone else hear that she might be pregnant? This is damaging to that sex kitten type role that she is playing now.

As far as her music, it's poppy. That's all. No substance. Just nice beats that make you want to dance which is kinda cool. I personally like what she did with Cameo's Candy. We all still know that no one can do it like he did. (lol remembering his hair ) At any rate, she needs some help psychologically. Something's just not sitting right with me since she left her husband, tommy motola(sp?)
