What She Saw In...
Has anyone read this book? The reason I put this topic under Greek Life and not Chit Chat is many of the chapters talk about her bad experience with the greek system. She wanted to get in to the "top" sorority, Pi Pi Pi but instead got her second choice Delta Nu Sigma.
I am finding the book very interesting because while the greek system isn't portrayed very good, either is the main character, Phoebe. She has a lot of problems so it doesn't bother me that her greek experience wasn't great.
I would be curious to hear other people's opinions on this book too.
The author is Lucinda Rosenfeld.

light reading....
I'm always reading everything I can get my hands on, so I'm interested in picking this up. I've never heard of it, is it a recent book?

Another
Another book i'd be interested to read is "Torn Togas:The Darker Side of Campus Greek Life."
Shes from USC but its complete BS to me. Seems like the same problems from the 80's re-hashed including the former NPHC rush proceedjure and the pre-FIPG and risk mgmt days.
Wouldnt buy it, but would go to a library to read. I always find it interesting what the critics are saying. What I do dind interesting is that as soon as soemone "on the inside" authors something, they are instantly an expert. Never mind that they were only a member who quit after 2 weeks. Whatever.

I've read it. I didn't like it. I got tired of Pheobe and her whining... didn't find the story or the characters compelling-- though I like the concept of the book.

It seemed to me like it was one of the many Bridget Jones's Diary imitators. I've got some of those books, but not all.

Interesting. Does the torn togas chick ever say what house she was in? She was a year behind me at USC. I will look her up in the Greek Yearbook tonight!

According to one of the reviews I read, the author named her sorority in a roundabout way. So, I'm guessing it's pretty easy to figure out.

I'll look her up tonight. I've got all my greek yearbooks, all the greek directories, etc. She'll be in one of them. I can only say for sure she wasn't a Chi O.

OK I looked her up in greek yearbook and greek phone directory for both 89-90 and 90-91 -- says on her amazon book page she graduated in 1992, so... if she was in a house those would be her soph and junior years.
Not a single person with her first name anywhere in the USC greek system.
Now I want to read the book to see if I can figure it out!

Torn Togas
Now I am curious to get this book also.
I graduated from college in 1993 so we were well aware of FPIG and just getting hounded with risk manangement stuff so I can't believe a school would be so out of control.
I am going to order this book ASAP.
Has anyone actually read it? What sorority was she in? I know she says it indirectly but does anyone know for sure?
When my book arrives I will read it quickly and let you guys know what I think.

Ok. I just ordered the torn togas book USED for $6.00!!! ha ha
I've got to get to the bottom of this, its bugging me now. None of my friends remembers anyone named Esther either-- and the system at SC is big, but not that big. We are all classes of 90-93 and we all would have either rushed her or rushed with her.
