Why did she do that?
A friend on mine's daughter will be rushing in the next couple of weeks. The Recruitment Counselors at the school she attends call the PNMs just to touch base and to answer any questions prior to the PNMs coming to campus. The daughter's Recruitment Counselor asked her if she was a legacy to a group that will be colonizing on campus. Daughter is not. Her roommate has the same Recruitment Counselor and she was also asked the same question,"Are you a legacy to ABC ?"
They are wondering why the RC would have asked such a pointed question. Another friend suggested that maybe Greek Life was trying to make sure that all the PNMs were aware of the added opportunity of the colonization, but another friend pointed out that most legacies would probably know that there was going to be a colonization.
Any ideas?

If there is an upcoming colonization, she MAY be asking in order to forward legacy PNM contact info on to the ABC HQ peeps/consultants who will be working there?

Was the colony perhaps not listed on the form PNMs filled out for recruitment? Or they got so few legacies listed for that group that they think maybe people didn't realize it was colonizing?
A lightly disguised effort to remind PNMs that there will be a colonization? (Seems a little roundabout to me, but you never know)

All these, I think.

I disagree. Many legacies will, I'm sure, but a lot will not know. Only a small number are probably aware that a colonization is happening. A lot proably don't even know what a colonization is.

hmmm...
"May I ask why you are asking?" (taught to answer a question that I didn't want to answer with another question!)
Have no idea and think that's a peculiar question if no explanation was offered for the question being asked in the first place.

This. Legacies whose mothers, grandmothers, sisters, et al are active with ABC would know ABC is colonizing. But, unfortunately, many people don't have anything to do with their GLO once they graduate, so they may not know about the colonization, and therefore can't give their daughter (or whoever) a heads up.
Your friend's daughter probably had to fill out a registration form asking if she were a legacy to any of the existing groups on campus - and then someone realized the form should have included the colonizing group as well - hence all the phone calls.

I don't find anything odd about it at all.

I'm paranoid. Are you talking to me? (didn't meet the smiley quotient for July, have to catch up now).
eta: multiple meanings in the above statement, all of which are humorous and not cranky (which is a euphemism for b****y).

According to my friend, both girls found the question odd. Of course, it could have been presented awkwardly, and that might have been the whole problem.
Thank you for your speculations. I will pass them on.

Perhaps they want to make sure they know who the colony legacies are in case they get released from formal recruitment. I think it's an excellent thing to ask. Shows - to me - that they care about the women and want to know everything about them so they can help them have a great recruitment.
