Badges on eBay
I just wanted to let all the Alpha Xi's here know that there are currently 3 badges up for auction on eBay. If anyone has the money, maybe you could rescue one. If I had the money, I'd do it myself.

Mindy

badges on eBay
I bid on one of the badges, but have already been outbid. I checked the previous purchases of the current high bidders, and several of them are collectors or dealers or something. They have many pins, not just ones from our sorority! If I weren't so strapped for cash right now I'd put in another bid; we need to make sure that Xis are getting these badges, NOT collectors and people who have no idea about the signifigance and importance of it to us. To prevent this problem possibly happening to your badge in the future, take care of it! Be buried with it or will it to Nationals!

This is awful---there have also been ZTA badges up for auction on there as well as many other sorority badges. It's not right that it should end up in the hands of a non-member, unless it is a family member of the original owner.

Just tried to bid on one of our badges--a collector outbid me. Boy it makes me mad. I wish there was something that we can do to stop collectors from purchasing our badges.

Those collectors seem to have A LOT of $$. I can't figure out what their fascination with GLO Badges is, though. I also particularly enjoyed the one sellers description saying that it was one of the elusive Alpha Xi Delta Badges. It does seem that our badges are on less often than some other orgs, but it seems that when it rains, it pours AXiD badges. It's really frustrating to see collectors getting them, but I guess there is nothing we can do about it right now. I emailed headquarters about it once and got no response. I know some of the other GLO's have said that their nationals will reinmurse them x number of dollars for rescuing a badge up for auction. I wish that AXiD would do the same thing. It would be much easier to outbid some of these people if we know we could get so much of the money back. Oh well. The whole thing frustrates me to no end.

You're sure right .. when it rains it pours...
There are two more Quills on ebay. I've bid on the one with pearls. The other is a plain badge from 1934.
I sure wish we could stop this ...

I know, this makes me so sad because the non-Greek people who buy them have no idea of their significance. Last summer I saw a Quill on there, and was shocked when I saw it had my chapter guard on it! I FREAKED, and wrote to the guy auctioning it off. He said it was about 45 years old, and he had bought it at a garage sale! I about died...I tried to buy it, but the bidding got up to over $300. Luckily, the girl who bought it was an AXiD, so at least it's still in the "family"!!!
I think this should tell us something....tell your next of kin or whoever that you either need to be buried with it, or it needs to be sent back to nationals when you die. Freaky thought, but I bet that's how most badges get there in the first place.

i know how you girls feel. 'bout three weeks ago there was an alpha gam badge on ebay. the really significant part was that there was a really special alumnae award attached to it (the seller thought it meant "iota" chapter). and this alumnae award is only given to a alum who has given AT LEAST 23 years of service to the fraternity. it really hurt that it was for sale. another alpha gam ended up getting it and sending it back to internationals but she paid 175 for it and now she's out the money. it amazes me. the things we do for our badges.
also. when it rains, it really does pour. three other AGD badges went up for sale within 3 days after that one went on the auction block. what a shame.
